The Formula 1 season is more than half over, but before enjoying a month-long summer break, drivers will face one of their toughest challenges, the 2024 Belgian Grand Prix. Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps is a daunting 20-turn, 4.352-mile track that features one of the most thrilling starts in the sport, with a drag race to the hairpin first corner known as "La Source" often producing drama. Max Verstappen is winless in his last three races for the first time since 2021. but he's the three-time defending world champion and he's also won at Spa the last three seasons.
However, with McLaren surging, Verstappen (+200) is not the favorite in the 2024 Belgian Grand Prix odds. Instead, Lando Norris is the +125 favorite and his McLaren teammate, as well as last week's winner, Oscar Piastri is third on this week's F1 odds board at +650. The race starts at 9 a.m. ET. Developed by daily Fantasy pro and SportsLine predictive data engineer Mike McClure, this proprietary Formula 1 prediction model simulates every race 10,000 times, taking into account factors such as track history and recent results. It's had a strong history of success in motorsports, correctly predicting 19 NASCAR winners since the 2021 season and its projected leaderboards have forecasted winners across multiple racing formats.
The model has been scorching hot when it comes to picking Formula 1 race events dating back to 2021. It nailed both of Charles Leclerc's wins in 2022, and at the 2021 Mexican Grand Prix, the model was strongly backing Verstappen as its top pick. The result: Verstappen dominated the field and ran away with a surprise victory.
The model followed that up by calling Verstappen's win at the Rolex Emilia Romagna GP in April and then nailed his wins again in Belgium, the Netherlands, Japan, the United States, Mexico and Abu Dhabi. It also nailed all 19 of Verstappen's wins during the 2023 season and then called all seven of the three-time defending champion's wins so far in the 2024 season. Anyone who followed the model's lead on those plays has seen huge returns.
Now, the model has dialed in on the 2024 Formula 1 Belgian Grand Prix and just released its coveted picks and leaderboard projections. You can head to SportsLine now to see the 2024 Belgian Grand Prix projected leaderboard.
Top 2024 Formula 1 Belgian Grand Prix predictions
One surprise: The model is high on Yuki Tsunoda of RB Formula One Team, predicting a top-10 finish that would pay out at +300. The 24-year-old is in his fourth season as an F1 driver and enjoying the best season of his career. He's 12th in the F1 standings, but is threatening to move into the top half, with Lance Stroll only two points ahead in 10th position.
Tsunoda has finished in the points (10th or better) in seven of his last 11 races and those seven top-10 finishes already match a career-high with nine races remaining on the Formula 1 schedule. He's also improved in every year of his career at Spa, finishing 15th in 2021, 13th in 2022 and 10th to collect a point in 2023. Tsunoda is coming off back-to-back points finishes in Hungary and Great Britain and the model likes him to add a third on Sunday. See more 2024 Belgian Grand Prix picks right here.
