TMZ.com reported Monday that Lakers forward Jordan Hill has been charged with felony assault for an incident that took place in Texas in February.
The charge was filed by the Harris County District Attorney in Houston. It's unclear who Hill is accused of attacking. The alleged incident took place on February 29. If convicted, Hill faces up to 10 years in prison.Houston television station KTRK reported additional details, clarifying that the victim was a "girlfriend of two years."
Hill's girlfriend says she flew into Houston from Florida to see him and they got into an argument while discussing their future. During the argument, she says she threw his cell phones to the floor. She told police that Hill then punched her in the legs, grabbed her, pulled her off the couch and dragged her to where the phones were, and threw her against the wall.On Monday, shortly after news broke, Hill posted two messages on his Twitter account (@jordanchill43).
Court documents state Hill demanded that she pick up his phones, and when she turned away from him, Hill grabbed her from behind and put her in a chokehold in which she couldn't breathe.
According to police, they obtained photos of the injuries from Hill's girlfriend that were consistent with her and her friend's statements.
"Wowwwww," he wrote. "Unbelievable!!!!!!!!"
Hill was acquired by the Lakers from the Houston Rockets in exchange for guard Derek Fisher and a first round pick back in March.
Hill, 24, is in his third NBA season after being selected as a lottery pick in the 2009 NBA Draft by the New York Knicks. He's posted season averages of 5.0 points and 4.8 rebounds in 2011-2012 and scored a season-high 14 points and grabbed a season-high 15 rebounds for the Lakers in a late-April win over the Oklahoma City Thunder.
The Lakers won Game 1 of their Western Conference first round playoff series over the Denver Nuggets on Sunday. Hill scored 10 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and blocked two shots and shot 5-for-10 from the field in 24 minutes.
Game 2 is scheduled for Tuesday night at Staples Center.
