Delonte West is officially done in Dallas.
The Mavericks announced Monday that West has been waived, cutting their roster down to 15 -- meaning Eddy Curry is officially part of Dallas's roster this season.
After a second suspension, the Mavs moved in a direction to cut ties with West. They searched for a potential trade partner but after finding no takers were forced to waive him.
The question now for West is if this is it. After difficult exits from his last couple NBA teams and the issues in Dallas, is there a team out there willing to take a risk with his shaky history? He can obviously play and has the potential to contribute to a team, but he has a past, and teams tend to shy away from multiple offenders.
The Mavs are now much more thin in their backcourt, especially if injury-prone Rodrigue Beaubois goes down again. West was expected to be a major contributor for the Mavs this season.
West, 29, averaged 9.6 points, 3.2 assists, 2.3 rebounds and 24.1 minutes in 44 games (33 starts) last season despite suffering a fractured and dislocated right ring finger on Feb. 15 against the Denver Nuggets. The injury forced West out of 21 games, but he returned to start the final 13 games of the regular season.
Unless a team claims him, he will be an unrestricted free agent once he clears waivers.
