Washington Wizards guard John Wall has fired agent Dan Fegan of Relativity Sports, and will soon be repped by LeBron James' agent, Rich Paul, according to the Washington Post's Jorge Castillo, who connected the obvious dots to Wall's lack of a shoe deal.
Wall has to wait 15 days after notifying Fegan before officially signing with Paul.
Paul represents and is close friends with Cleveland Cavaliers all-star LeBron James. His other clients include Cavaliers center Tristan Thompson, Phoenix Suns point guard Eric Bledsoe and former Wizards center Kevin Seraphin.
Fegan had represented Wall since he left Kentucky after one season and became the No. 1 overall pick in the 2010 draft. The decision to dismiss Fegan comes after negotiations for a new sneaker contract with Adidas fell through and Wall’s deal with the company expired at the end of September, a couple months after Adidas signed Houston Rockets guard James Harden to a 13-year, $200 million contact to make him their marketing focus in basketball.
Wall still wore his signature Adidas sneaker in games at the beginning of the season for royalties but has recently been wearing Nike. James signed a lifetime contract with Nike last month and nine of Paul’s other 10 clients are with Nike.
Wall's current contract keeps him in Washington until 2019, so this move doesn't have any effect on NBA free agency. This is still a huge coup for Paul and Klutch Sports, especially given Wall's status as a shoe free agent.
You can add this to the list of things on Wall's mind right now. With this, his knee MRI and Washington being 11th in the Eastern Conference, it's a bit of a weird time for the superstar. He's one of the best point guards on the planet, but it seems like everything around him has been in flux this season.
