Here's the sneakiest play of the season: On Wednesday, Los Angeles Lakers guard Marcelo Huertas hid behind Miami Heat coach Erik Spoelstra on the sideline, dashed back onto the court and stole the ball from behind Heat guard Goran Dragic. Dragic had no idea what hit him. I've never seen anything like this before.
I can't watch that without laughing. It might be my favorite play of the season. I can't believe Huertas tried it, and I really can't believe it worked. Perhaps Huertas' new haircut emboldened him.
You can't really blame Dragic, though, can you? Why would he ever expect your defender to hide behind your coach, wait for you to dribble the ball up the court and then surprise you with a sneak attack? It's brilliant.
Also: I'm wondering what in the world was going through Spoelstra's mind here. He probably should have been jumping and screaming as Huertas caught up to Dragic.
