Minnesota Timberwolves guard Brandon Roy had arthroscopic knee surgery a little more than a month ago. Which was not a good sign for a player trying to make an NBA comeback after his bad knees forced him to retire.
Roy was looking to return soon and was set to practice Friday, but that's going to have to wait. According to Yahoo! Sports, Roy had setbacks which has forced him to delay his return.
According to the AP, Roy is considering retirement instead of trying for one more run.
Brandon Roy is weighing retirement vs looking for 1 more medical procedure to try to help his knees. He's gone back and forth last 2 days
All signs are pointing toward retirement for Roy but it's understandable that he's taking a little extra time to make sure it's best move
Problem is there is no magic pill or surgery to cure what ails Roy. So we all know where this is headed
Roy released this statement late Saturday:
"Last week while practicing, I suffered a setback in my recovery. I’ve felt better since the recent surgery, but I am not all the way better. The past two days I have been weighing all of my options as I try to continue my basketball career. I have decided to explore additional treatment options and an extensive rehabilitation plan. My goal has been, and continues to be, to return to the basketball court as healthy as possible in order to help our team."
His comeback hasn't exactly gone well, but Roy was moderately productive for the Wolves during his time. In five games he was averaging 6.8 assists per 36 minutes.
He was also shooting a career-low 31.4 percent from the field and didn't seem to have the kind of explosiveness off the dribble he's used in the past, but it did look like Roy could contribute off the Wolves bench.
After this setback, though, Roy is without a timetable and who knows what his NBA future holds.
