  • Rudy Gay: Brings end to 17-year career

Gay announced his retirement from professional basketball Tuesday in an essay posted on The Players' Tribune. After being cut by the Warriors during training camp last October, the 38-year-old Gay had been a free agent for the past year before he decided to officially close the books on a 17-year NBA career. The No. 8 overall pick in the 2006 NBA Draft, Gay finished third in the Rookie of the Year balloting and went on to average 15.8 points, 5.6 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.1 three-pointers, 1.1 steals and 0.7 blocks in 1,120 career games across stops with the Grizzlies, Raptors, Kings and Jazz. With 17,642 career points, Gay ranks 91st on the NBA's all-time scoring list.

  • Rudy Gay: Let go by Golden State

The Warriors waived Gay on Saturday. Gay averaged 2.0 points and 3.5 rebounds in 7.5 minutes across two preseason appearances for the Warriors. The veteran forward will look to join a new team ahead of the 2023-24 campaign.

  • Warriors' Rudy Gay: Joins Golden State

Gay agreed to a one-year deal with the Warriors on Wednesday, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports. Gay was traded twice this offseason before being waived by the Thunder in mid-July. The veteran will now get a chance to compete for a roster spot during training camp. Gay averaged at least 10 points per game in 15 straight seasons to start his career, but he's seen his production dip in recent years and posted career-low marks across the board in 2022-23. He averaged just 5.2 points per game over 56 contests with no starts last season.

  • Thunder's Rudy Gay: Hitting open market

The Thunder waived Gay on Wednesday, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports. After being dealt to the Hawks earlier in the offseason and then getting re-routed to Oklahoma City in another trade, Gay will become a free agent without having ever donned a Thunder uniform. The 36-year-old appeared in 56 games with Utah last season, averaging 5.2 points, 2.9 rebounds and 1.0 assists across 14.6 minutes. Though he's well past his prime, Gay could receive interest on the open market from contending teams in need of a veteran big man off the bench.

  • Thunder's Rudy Gay: Headed to OKC

The Hawks traded Gay, TyTy Washington, Usman Garuba and a second-round pick to the Thunder in exchange for Patty Mills on Saturday, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports. Gay was recently traded to the Hawks but has been rerouted to the Thunder. The 36-year-old forward could be on the move again before the offseason ends, as he doesn't have a clear fit with Oklahoma City's young roster.

  • Hawks' Rudy Gay: Traded to Atlanta

Gay exercised his $6.4 million player option for the 2023-24 campaign Monday and was traded from the Jazz to the Hawks, along with a future second-round pick, in exchange for John Collins, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports. Per Wojnarowski, the Hawks aren't done making moves yet this offseason, so Gay's future in Atlanta remains unclear. The 2016 first-round pick averaged at least 10 points, four rebounds and 20 minutes per game in each of his first 15 NBA seasons, but his production took a hit after moving to Utah ahead of the 2021-22 season. The veteran faces stiff competition for playing time in Atlanta, given De'Andre Hunter, Saddiq Bey, Jalen Johnson and AJ Griffin will presumably all garner significant roles next year, so it wouldn't be surprising to see Gay involved in another trade this summer.

  • Jazz's Rudy Gay: Rare night in double figures

Gay racked up 10 points (4-7 FG, 2-5 3Pt), six rebounds, four assists, one block and one steal over 17 minutes during Tuesday's 120-116 loss to Dallas. Gay scored in double digits for the first time in almost a month with the help of an efficient night from the field. While he's typically not a threat to take over a game, he's added some value off the bench of late, averaging 8.0 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 1.8 assists over his last five appearances.

  • Jazz's Rudy Gay: Good to go Saturday

Gay (nose) will play in Saturday's game against the Spurs, Eric Walden of The Salt Lake Tribune reports. Gay sustained a broken nose in Thursday's game against Oklahoma City but has received the green light ahead of Saturday's tilt. In the five games prior to the injury, Gay averaged 8.8 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.4 assists across 15.7 minutes.

  • Jazz's Rudy Gay: Listed as questionable

Gay (nose) is questionable for Saturday's game against the Spurs. Gay broke his nose after colliding with Lauri Markkanen during Thursday's matchup against Oklahoma City and will attempt to tough it out, presumably with a mask, moving forward. If Gay is ultimately sidelined for a few games, Juan Toscano-Anderson and Simone Fontecchio could see slightly increased roles off the bench.
