Amundson was released by the Knicks on Friday, Ian Begley of ESPN reports.
Amundson's cutting comes despite the fact that his contract was fully guaranteed for the 2016-17 season, which shows that even had New York kept the big man, he would have had little-to-no role on the Knicks this year. This would be Amundson's 11th NBA season, so given that he is a veteran, there is a chance that the 33-year-old is signed down the road by a team in need of some fairly reliable frontcourt depth.

Knicks' Lou Amundson: Plays eight minutes Saturday
Amundson (back) played eight minutes in Saturday's 116-98 preseason win over the Nets, scoring two points (1-2 FG) and adding three assists and a rebound.
A back issue prevented Amundson from suiting up in the Knicks' preseason opener Tuesday against the Rockets, but a few days off was all he needed to remedy the situation. Amundson's contract for the 2016-17 season is fully guaranteed, but he'll still need to play well enough in training camp and the preseason in order to hold off Marshall Plumlee for a roster spot.

Amundson has been ruled out of Tuesday's preseason matchup against the Rockets due to a back injury, Ian Begley of ESPN.com reports.
Amundson isn't expected to play much more than a deep reserve role in the frontcourt this season, so even when healthy, he's not a viable fantasy option. He's currently dealing with a back injury, although it's unclear how long it could keep him sidelined.

The contract is reportedly fully guaranteed, meaning the Knicks likely intend on keeping him on the roster for the regular season, rather than just bringing him in as a training camp body. The 10-year veteran will slot in as a reserve option at both power forward and center, but isn't expected to see significant minutes, as he'll be a bit buried on the depth chart. Amundson averaged 1.8 points and 1.7 rebounds over just seven minutes per game last season and should see a similar role going forward, making him a player to avoid in fantasy leagues.
