Jason Smith: Waived Wednesday
Smith was waived by the Pelicans on Wednesday, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports.
In order to make room for the signing of Christian Wood, Smith was let go. He played a minimal role with the Pelicans, and it's possible he goes the remainder of the season without finding a new home.

Pelicans' Jason Smith: Scores eight points in loss
Smith managed eight points (2-5 FG, 2-4 3Pt, 2-2 FT), one rebound, and one assist in 14 minutes during Friday's 122-110 loss to the Trail Blazers.
Smith made his second straight appearance, as Anthony Davis (rest) was sidelined for this one while Jahlil Okafor earned just 12 minutes as the starting center and Cheick Diallo played only 15 minutes off the bench. Assuming Davis is back in the lineup for Saturday's matchup with the Suns, Smith could potentially find himself squeezed out of the rotation once again.

Pelicans' Jason Smith: Grabs three boards in six minutes
Smith had zero points (0-4 FG, 0-3 3Pt) and three rebounds in six minutes during Tuesday's 130-113 loss to the Bucks.
Smith couldn't find the bottom of the net, though he wasn't shy to say the least. This was actually his first appearance since being acquired by the Pelicans prior to the trade deadline despite the fact that he has been healthy since Feb. 8. In view of this, Smith can be left on waiver wires across all formats.

Smith was dealt to the Pelicans from the Bucks on Thursday, and he'll be ready to roll after passing through the typical trade formalities. He failed to find much of a role off the bench with Milwaukee, so he's hoping for a better outcome in New Orleans.

Smith (knee) was traded to New Orleans on Thursday, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports.
Smith and Stanley Johnson will head to the Pelicans as part of a package that brings Nikola Mirotic to Milwaukee. The Bucks got Smith from Washington earlier this season, but the veteran never entered the rotation and is essentially a salary throw-in in Thursday's deal.

Bucks' Jason Smith: Deemed questionable
Smith (knee) is listed as questionable for Monday's game against the Nets.
Smith sat out Saturday's 131-115 win over the Wizards with the sore left knee. The big man's injury doesn't appear to be a significant concern, but even if he gains clearance for Monday, he wouldn't be in store for anything more than garbage-time minutes.

Despite previously being listed as probable, Smith will not be available Saturday. That shouldn't affect the Bucks' rotation, however, as he hasn't played since Jan. 16 against the Grizzlies.

Bucks' Jason Smith: Healthy inactive Monday
Smith (coach's decision) was inactive for Monday's 116-106 win over the Mavericks.
The Bucks had all of their key rotation options available for the contest, forcing coach Mike Budenholzer to make some tough choices with his inactive players. Budenholzer ultimately chose to keep Thon Maker active as a third center over Smith, who has appeared in just six of the Bucks' 22 games since coming over in a Dec. 7 trade with the Wizards. Smith probably won't see meaningful action this season unless at least two of the centers ahead of him on the depth succumb to injuries.

Bucks' Jason Smith: Dealt to Bucks
Smith, along with a future second-round pick, was traded to the Bucks in exchange for Sam Dekker, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports.
After trading John Henson to the Cavaliers, the Bucks seem to be interested in bolstering the frontcourt. Smith has appeared in 12 games for the Wizards this season, averaging 3.7 points, 3.1 rebounds and 1.0 assists in 10.8 minutes. He's also 4-for-10 from beyond the arc.

Wizards' Jason Smith: Plays 12 minutes in Friday's loss
Smith totaled five points (2-3 FG, 1-2 3Pt) and two rebounds in 12 minutes during Friday's 123-98 loss to the 76ers.
Smith had been a healthy scratch in each of the last five games. Moreover, since earning a season-high 24 minutes back on Oct. 30, Smith has appeared in just six of 15 matchups, with this being the most minutes he has seen in any November game. Dwight Howard (lower body) being out for the next couple months opens the door for Smith to steal a few minutes here and there, but Wizards coach Scott Brooks could simply opt to rely on more small-ball lineups.

Wizards' Jason Smith: Shines as backup center
Smith played a season-high 24 minutes Tuesday in the Wizards' 107-95 loss to the Grizzlies, finishing with seven points (2-4 FG, 1-1 3Pt, 2-2 FT), six rebounds, four assists and two blocks.
With Dwight Howard (back) and Markieff Morris (concussion) both sidelined, Smith acted as the top reserve in the frontcourt and delivered a useful line for those that rolled the dice on him as a cap-saving measure in DFS contests. Howard is trending toward suiting up in the Wizards' next game Friday against the Thunder and Morris could be back, too, so expect Smith's playing time to fall below 20 minutes in that contest, if not sink into the single digits.

Wizards' Jason Smith: Will start Wednesday
Smith will draw the start in Wednesday's game against the Warriors, Fred Katz of The Athletic reports.
Ian Mahinmi has been ruled out with a back injury, and with Dwight Howard has yet to play this season as he is dealing with a glute injury, moving Smith into the starting five. He's averaging just 14.5 minutes per game thus far, however he could see a slight increase in his minutes if Mahinmi and Howard continue to miss games.

Smith supplied 11 points (5-11 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 1-1 FT), six rebounds, one assist, one steal, and one block in 13 minutes during Monday's 110-98 win over the Knicks.
Smith wasn't afraid to let it fly on offense, attempting 11 shots in as many minutes. With Dwight Howard (back) still out and Markieff Morris (abdomen) hobbled as well, Smith could begin the regular season as Ian Mahinmi's primary backup at center. While Wizards coach Scott Brooks has insisted that he plans to embrace more small-ball lineups this year, Smith could be in line to see double-digit minutes in the early going, which would at least be an uptick from his role in 2017-18.

Wizards' Jason Smith: Picks up player option
Smith picked up his $5.45-million player option for the 2018-19 campaign, Sam Amico of Fox Sports Ohio reports.
It's doubtful the 32-year-old big man could have garnered more money on the open market after appearing in just 33 games last season, averaging 3.4 points in 8.6 minutes per contest. As it stands, it's unlikely he sees a role change next year.
