  • Jon Leuer: Closes curtains on career

Leuer announced Sunday via his personal Instagram account that he has retired from professional basketball.

The 31-year-old noted in his post that he's contended with a number of injuries over the past three years, including two that sidelined him throughout the 2019-20 season after he was waived in July shortly after Milwaukee acquired him from Detroit. After taking some time to evaluate his future, Leuer determined it was best to step away from the game rather than attempting a comeback. He'll wrap up an eight-year NBA career with averages of 6.4 points and 3.8 rebounds in 15.8 minutes per game over 377 regular-season appearances between the Bucks, Cavaliers, Grizzlies, Suns and Pistons.

  • Jon Leuer: Waived by Bucks

Leuer was waived by Milwaukee on Tuesday, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports.

Leuer was acquired by the Bucks in mid-June in a trade that sent Tony Snell and the 30th pick of the 2019 NBA Draft to the Pistons, but he never received an opportunity to take the court with Milwaukee. Leuer averaged 3.8 points and 2.4 rebounds over 41 games a season ago with Detroit.

  • Pistons' Jon Leuer: Headed to Milwaukee

The Bucks acquired Leuer from the Pistons on Wednesday in exchange for Tony Snell and the No. 30 overall pick in Thursday's draft, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports.

Leuer struggled to stay healthy during his last two seasons in Detroit and effectively fell out of the rotation when he was available in 2018-19, averaging just 3.8 points and 2.4 rebounds in 9.8 minutes per contest. His path to playing time will likely become more difficult as he heads to a deeper Milwaukee squad entering his age-30 campaign. Rather than because of any affinity for Leuer, the Bucks' main motivation in the deal was to free up extra salary-cap space by shedding Snell's onerous contract. The financial flexibility should improve the Bucks' chances of re-signing impending free agents Khris Middleton and Malcolm Brogdon.

  • Pistons' Jon Leuer: Set to start Monday

Leuer will start Monday's game against the Cavaliers in place of Blake Griffin (rest), Keith Langlois of Pistons.com reports.

Leuer hasn't played a second in any of the last three games, and he wasn't even active for a matchup with the Lakers on Friday, but he'll move into the lineup alongside Andre Drummond up front. The Wisconsin product has appeared in only five games since the start of February.

  • Pistons' Jon Leuer: Inactive for Friday

Leuer is inactive for Friday's game against the Lakers, Rod Beard of The Detroit News reports.

Leuer has played in just two of Detroit's previous nine games, so it's unsurprising that he's listed as inactive.

  • Pistons' Jon Leuer: Absent from injury report

Leuer (knee) appears to have returned to health after he was left off the injury report prior to Friday's game against Chicago.

Leuer hasn't taken the court since Feb. 23, but he's no longer on the injury report, which is a good sign. Given his role in the rotation, he may not see much playing time even after getting the green light.

  • Pistons' Jon Leuer: Questionable Wednesday

Leuer is listed as questionable for Wednesday's game against the Timberwolves due to a right knee injury.

Leuer is dealing with some fluid build-up in his knee, and the Pistons will wait until closer to game-time to see if the situation improves. Either way, Leuer hasn't been a regular part of the rotation, and he can be ignored for fantasy purposes.

  • Pistons' Jon Leuer: Inactive Monday

Leuer won't be active for Monday's game against Washington, Rod Beard of the Detroit News reports.

Not too many fantasy ramifications here, but it looks as though the Pistons' moves at the deadline won't do much to help Leuer, who's been on the outside looking in for most of the year. Down the stretch, Detroit will continue to lean heavily on Andre Drummond and Blake Griffin, and it looks as though Thon Maker could have the edge over Leuer off the bench. Glenn Robinson III will also be inactive Monday.

  • Pistons' Jon Leuer: Upgraded to probable

Leuer (illness) has been upgraded to probable for Saturday's tilt with the Kings, Vincent Ellis of the Detroit Free Press reports.

Leuer has missed the past two games with an illness, but looks to be ready to return to the lineup Saturday. Assuming he's able to play, the veteran forward should slot back into his normal role that's seen him average 4.4 points and 2.7 rebounds in 11.1 minutes per game on the season.

  • Pistons' Jon Leuer: Out with illness

Leuer is listed as out for Friday's game against the Heat due to an illness.

The specifics of Leuer's illness are unknown at this time, but his absence shouldn't have too large of an impact on the team's rotation. Stanley Johnson or Zaza Pachulia could see more run in the frontcourt with Leuer out, however.

  • Pistons' Jon Leuer: Cleared to play Monday

Leuer (knee) is available to play Monday against the Spurs, Keith Langlois of the Pistons' official site reports.

As expected, Leuer is good to go for Monday's contest after entering the day with a probable tag. He's averaging just 2.7 points and 5.3 rebounds over his last three games, so there are likely better streaming options available.

  • Pistons' Jon Leuer: Probable Monday

Leuer is listed as probable for Monday's game against the Spurs due to a right knee soreness.

Leuer evidently is feeling some soreness coming off Saturday's game against Utah, although he's expected to take the court for Detroit's upcoming contest. Assuming he's cleared to play, Leuer won't be an enticing play for fantasy owners, scoring just two points over his previous two matchups.

  • Pistons' Jon Leuer: Starting Monday

Leuer is starting Monday's game against Philadelphia, Dwain Price of the Mavericks' official site reports.

Leuer will start in place of Blake Griffin, who won't play Monday while resting. With Griffin out, Leuer can expect to see heavy minutes Monday, but it's unlikely the big man will hold much value going forward as Griffin's expected to return for Wednesday's game against the Hornets.

  • Pistons' Jon Leuer: Plays four minutes in Friday's win

Leuer saw four minutes during Friday's 116-111 overtime win against the Rockets.

Leuer committed two fouls and didn't record any other stats in this one. He has appeared in eight of 16 games thus far this season, including seven of nine here in November. With that being said, Leuer has earned double-digit minutes only twice and thus can safely be left on waiver wires.

  • Pistons' Jon Leuer: To see 'a few minutes' Wednesday

Leuer (knee) will make his preseason debut Wednesday against the Wizards and see "a few minutes", Keith Langlois of the Pistons' official site reports.

Leuer has been recovering from right knee surgery, and Wednesday will mark his first game action since Oct. 31 last year. Once the regular season arrives, he'll be competing for reserve frontcourt minutes with Henry Ellenson and Zaza Pachulia.

  • Pistons' Jon Leuer: Out Monday vs. Nets

Leuer (knee) has been ruled out for Monday's preseason matchup with the Nets, Pistons radio play-by-play announcer Mark Champion reports.

Leuer has missed all of training camp and the preseason thus far with a knee injury, but was able to participate in 5-on-5 work for the first time Sunday. Considering he's just getting reintegrated in scrimmages and full-contact, it's not a huge surprise that Leuer will miss at least one more contest. The Pistons close out the exhibition slate with matchup against the Wizards on Wednesday and the Cavaliers on Friday, so there's still a chance Leuer is able to get on the court at some point prior to the regular-season opener Oct. 17 against the Nets.

  • Pistons' Jon Leuer: Upgraded to 5-on-5 work

Leuer (knee) took part in some 5-on-5 work Sunday, Keith Langlois of Pistons.com reports.

Leuer had surgery on his knee at the start of August and has been limited throughout training camp and the preseason thus far. However, he made a significant jump in his progress with his return to 5-on-5 work Sunday, which now gives him the potential to be cleared for the start of the regular season. Still, considering the lengthy absence, Leuer could be brought along slowly over the next few weeks, so continue to keep an eye on his participation in practice. Once cleared, Leuer should have a regular role in the rotation with the second unit.

  • Pistons' Jon Leuer: Will be limited to start camp

Leuer (knee) will be limited to open training camp, Rod Beard of the Detroit News reports.

Leuer underwent surgery on his right knee back in early August, and while the procedure was considered minor, he's still working through the latter phases of his recovery. The hope is that the Wisconsin product will be at full strength by the regular season opener, but at Monday's media day, Pistons senior adviser Ed Stefanski confirmed that Leuer is not yet in basketball shape and will use training camp and the preseason to work his way back. "Everything is progressing well in the rehab," Leuer said. "My goal is to be back before the first game, hopefully, the last preseason game."
