Marreese Speights: Gets workout with Lakers
Speights will have an individual workout with the Lakers this week, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports.
After losing DeMarcus Cousins to a torn ACL, the Lakers are on a quest to find another veteran center to take his spot on the roster. Speights signed a contract with the Guangzhou Long-Lions of the Chinese Basketball Association earlier this summer, but chances are he would welcome a potential return to the NBA. Los Angeles is also holding private workouts with Dwight Howard and Joakim Noah.

Marreese Speights: Headed to China
Speights agreed to a contract Monday with the Guangzhou Long-Lions of the Chinese Basketball Association, freelance reporter David Pick reports.
Since Speights signed a one-year deal with Orlando last summer, he won't officially become a free agent until July, when his contract with the CBA club should become official. After struggling to find playing time and seeing his efficiency decline with a rebuilding Magic club in 2017-18, Speights was unlikely to garner much more than another one-year contract with minimal guaranteed money from NBA teams. His deal with Guangzhou likely contains more favorable terms, and should afford him the opportunity to potentially return to the NBA once the CBA season concludes at some point between February and May, depending on if or how deep Guangzhou advances in the playoffs.

Magic's Marreese Speights: Finds himself buried
Speights averaged 7.7 points, 2.6 rebounds and 0.8 assists across 52 games played with the Magic in 2017-18.
Still only 29 years old, Speights found himself buried on the Magic's depth chart late in the year as the Magic went more with its youth. The Florida product still has some good years left and will be a free agent once the NBA season officially concludes.

Magic's Marreese Speights: Scores 14 points in rare appearance
Speights scored 14 points (6-13 FG, 2-5 3Pt, 0-2 FT) to go along with three rebounds, three assists and one steal across 25 minutes during Friday's 137-100 loss to the Hornets.
Speights made his first appearance in seven games as Nikola Vucevic was held out for rest, finishing second on the team in scoring as he tied for the lead in shot attempts. The big man seems like an afterthought whenever all his teammates are healthy, so his role seems likely to shrivel up once again if Vucevic returns to the lineup for Sunday's match against Toronto.

Magic's Marreese Speights: Plays 15 minutes in blow-out
Speights had six points (2-6 FG, 2-5 3Pt), four rebounds, two blocks and one assist in 15 minutes during Tuesday's 108-72 loss to the Spurs.
Speights, who has basically been out of the rotation the last three weeks, managed to see some action with the Magic pummeled by the Spurs. Speights is able to put up some stats in limited minutes but he just isn't a part of the future for the young organization. He can be left on the waivers in all leagues.

Magic's Marreese Speights: DNP-CD in loss to Raptors
Speights was a DNP-CD in Wednesday's loss to the Raptors.
Speights was away from the team for the previous two games while tending to a personal issue, but he was back on the bench Wednesday, though he failed to see the floor for a fourth consecutive contest. The 30-year-old had been seeing consistent minutes for the better part of the season, but the returns of Aaron Gordon and Nikola Vucevic from injury -- coupled with the fact that Orlando has likely shifted its focus to developing younger players -- has relegated Speights to the fringes of the rotation.

Magic's Marreese Speights: Will not play in next two games
Speights is has been ruled out for the next two games while he attends a personal matter, John Denton of OrlandoMagic.com reports.
Speights will not travel with the team to Philadelphia on Saturday or Oklahoma City on Monday, so he will likely re-join the team when they return home next Wednesday. Speights did not see any playing time in Thursday's game against the Magic, so his absence shouldn't have much of an immediate impact on the team's rotation, especially with both Nikola Vucevic and Aaron Gordon back in the lineup.

Magic's Marreese Speights: Scores 12 off bench Monday
Speights scored 12 points (4-9 FG, 2-6 3Pt, 2-2 FT) while adding five rebounds, an assist and a block in 17 minutes off the bench during Monday's 111-109 win over the Heat.
Mario Hezonja's hot shooting has allowed the Croatian to supplant Speights as the starting power forward while Aaron Gordon (hip) is sidelined, but Speights still made a contribution despite his limited court time Monday. Expect the veteran big man to see extra minutes again Tuesday at home against the Cavs while Gordon remains out of action.

Magic's Marreese Speights: Shifting back to bench
Speights will move back to the bench Monday against Miami, John Denton of OrlandoMagic.com reports.
Speights drew a pair of starts in place of Aaron Gordon (hip), but the Magic will pivot to a smaller look with Mario Hezonja at power forward Monday. Still, Speights could continue to see increased minutes for the time being with Gordon already ruled out for Tuesday's game against the Cavs.

Magic's Marreese Speights: Stays hot in start
Speights totaled 21 points (6-11 FG, 3-6 3Pt, 6-7 FT), four rebounds and one assist across 23 minutes during a 127-105 win over the Lakers on Wednesday.
Speights received the start with Aaron Gordon (hip) sidelined and scored a season-high 21 points. His 38 combined points over the last two games mark his best two-game scoring stretch of the season. Speights had scored in single-digits in the previous five games, so he'll continue to benefit while Gordon is sidelined.

Magic's Marreese Speights: Starting at power forward Wednesday
Speights will start at power forward for Wednesday's matchup against the Lakers, Josh Robbins of the Orlando Sentinel reports.
With Aaron Gordon (hip) out, Speights will draw the start at power forward over Mario Hezonoja, who had started the previous contest in Gordon's absence. In the one other game that Speights has started this season, he posted seven points and one rebound across 18 minutes.

Magic's Marreese Speights: Scores 17 points in Tuesday's loss
Speights supplied 17 points (6-11 FG, 4-8 3Pt, 1-1 FT), five rebounds, two assists, one steal, and one block in 21 minutes during Tuesday's 114-107 loss to the Rockets.
Speights scored in double figures for the 12th time through 39 appearances in 2017-18. Since missing the Jan. 16 win versus the Timberwolves due to a personal matter, Speights had combined to see just 27 minutes in the four games preceding this one. Moreover, he scored more points in Tuesday's loss than he had in his five previous appearances combined. Nevertheless, if Aaron Gordon (hip) remains sidelined for Wednesday's bout with the Lakers, Speights will likely be called upon to play decent minutes once again, making him a potential upside play in daily leagues.

Magic's Marreese Speights: Plays six minutes in return to lineup
Speights (personal) finished Thursday's game against the Cavaliers with three points and one assist across six minutes.
Speights was away from the team during their last contest, as he had to tend to a personal matter. Despite returning to the lineup Thursday, however, he played just six total minutes and appeared to be outside the regular rotation. The emergence of fellow big man Khem Birch could be the reasoning behind that, as he logged 17 and 19 minutes, respectively, over the last two contests. Either way, Speights wasn't putting up fantasy worthy numbers to begin with, so he can continue to be avoided by owners for the time being.

Magic's Marreese Speights: Late scratch Tuesday vs. Minnesota
Speights will not be with the Magic for Tuesday's game against the Timberwolves for personal reasons, Josh Robbins of the Orlando Sentinel reports.
This is the first we've heard of a potential absence for Speights, who's set to be sidelined with a personal matter. It's unclear if this will just be a one-game absence or if he could miss more contests, so tentatively consider him questionable for Thursday's game against the Cavaliers as well. Speights' absence should open even more minutes for Mario Hezonja, who's played a key role as an injury replacement over the last month or so.

Magic's Marreese Speights: Moving back to bench
Speights will shift back to the bench Saturday against Washington, Josh Robbins of the Orlando Sentinel reports.
With the Magic dealing with several injuries, Speights drew a spot start at forward Friday night, but he'll shift back to his usual reserve role Saturday. Even so, he could still see a slight bump in minutes, as the Magic will be without Aaron Gordon, Jonathan Isaac and Evan Fournier. Regardless of the injuries, Speights' minutes have been difficult to project. He saw 18 minutes of action Friday but was a DNP-CD in each of Orlando's previous two contests.

Magic's Marreese Speights: Starting at power forward Friday
Speights will start at power forward in Friday's game against the Pelicans, John Denton of OrlandoMagic.com reports.
Speights hasn't seen the floor in either of the last two games, but coach Frank Vogel is electing to switch up the starting five with Aaron Gordon (calf) still out. Speights has only played 20-plus minutes twice this season, and he shouldn't be expected to play much more Friday even as a member of the starting lineup. Mario Hezonja will still likely be the biggest benefactor of Gordon's absence.

Magic's Marreese Speights: Fails to see the floor Saturday
Speights didn't see the floor in Saturday's 110-117 loss to the Hawks.
Speights was expected to see a sizable workload with Aaron Gordon (concussion) sitting out, but the Magic turned to Mario Hezonja (31 minutes) to start at power forward and gave guys like Wesley Iwundu (26 minutes) and Bismack Biyombo (10 minutes) the frontcourt workload off the bench. It's unclear if Speights didn't play because of an injury or if coach Frank Vogel was just giving his veteran the night off for rest. Either way, if Gordon misses more time, Speights' status should be monitored heading into Wednesday's game against the Clippers.
