Jeff Ayres: Signs with Japanese team
Ayres has signed with the Ryukyu Golden Kings, a Japanese club, Sportnado.com reports.
Ayres hasn't played in the NBA since 2015-16, when he appeared in 17 games as a member of the Clippers. The following year, he appeared in G-League games, but didn't play well enough to ultimately get called up. Most recently, he played for the Turkish club Eskishehir Basket. Ayres started 23 of his 31 appearances, averaging 10.6 points and 8.2 rebounds while shooting 56.5 percent from the field. Considering Ayres is 31 years old, an NBA comeback seems like a longshot at this point.

Lakers' Jeff Ayres: Finishes SL play on strong note
Ayres poured in 11 points (5-9 FG, 1-1 FT) and added one assist and one steal across 23 minutes during the Lakers' 91-73 loss to the Trail Blazers in the Las Vegas Summer League championship game Tuesday.
The veteran big man put his best foot forward in Las Vegas after a two-year sojourn overseas. Ayres finished with averages of 10.4 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.0 assist across 21.7 minutes over seven summer league games, offering some impressive offensive contributions in several contests. The 31-year-old will now await word on whether he made enough of an impression to continue pursuing an NBA return in a training camp this fall.

Lakers' Jeff Ayres: Scores 20 in OT win
Ayres scored 20 points (6-8 FG, 8-9 FT) while adding five rebounds, three assists and a block in 35 minutes during Monday's 112-109 double-overtime win over the Cavaliers in the summer league semi-final.
While Josh Hart and Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk have been the engine of the Lakers' offense in Vegas, the 31-year-old Ayres has been a stable presence in the post. He hasn't played a minute in the NBA since 2015-16, though, spending the last two seasons in Russia and Japan, and even if his showing in the summer league earns him a training camp invite, it's hard to see Ayres finding his way back to North America in any kind of meaningful role.

Lakers' Jeff Ayres: Double-doubles in SL quarterfinal win
Ayres registered 10 points (4-9 FG, 2-2 FT), 10 rebounds, two assists and one block across 27 minutes during the Lakers' 101-78 win over the Pistons in a Las Vegas Summer League quarterfinal-round contest Sunday.
Ayres has quietly put together a strong body of work in Vegas, as he came into Sunday's game averaging 8.0 points (on 77.0 percent shooting) and 5.5 rebounds across 16.5 minutes over four contests. The veteran big man has played overseas for the last two seasons, and it remains to be seen if he'll be able to parlay his efficient summer league efforts into a training camp invite.

Ayers will sign with Toyota Alvark of the Japan-B League, Sportando reports.
Ayres played in 17 games for the Clippers during the 2015-16 campaign, but averaged just 1.8 points and 1.3 rebounds over 6.3 minutes per game, before being released. He was unable to find an NBA suitor at the start of this season and he ended up signing with CSKA Moscow of the Russion VTB United League. However, it appears he's on to his next destination, as he's now headed to play in Japan. Ayers could attempt an NBA comeback at some point later this season, but as it currently stands, he'll continue to test his luck overseas.

Jeff Ayres: Signs contract with Russian team
Ayres signed a contract Thursday with CSKA Moscow of the Russian VTB United League, Euroleague.net reports.
Ayres parlayed a pair of 10-day deals with the Clippers last January into a contract with the club for the rest of the season, finishing the campaign with 1.8 points and 1.3 rebounds in 6.3 minutes per game in 17 contests. The production wasn't good enough to merit much interest from NBA teams when Ayres became a free agent in July, however, so he'll head overseas to receive some guaranteed money.

Clippers' Jeff Ayres: Scores two points in blowout victory
Ayres scored two points (1-1 FG) and added four rebounds and an assist over seven minutes in Tuesday's 103-81 win over the Lakers.
Ayres has appeared in five of the Clippers' last six games, but has seen double-digit minutes in just one of those contests. With Blake Griffin (quad, hand) now back in the fold following a 45-game absence, Ayres likely won't see his role expand in a significant way over the team's final five games.

Ayres was let go by the Clippers in February after his second 10-day contract expired, but with the team failing to add a more established player to the roster via the buyout market, the well-traveled big man will regain his spot. Look for Ayres to provide a depth option in the frontcourt while Blake Griffin (quad, hand) remains out of commission, but don't expect him to see much court time outside of blowouts.

Jeff Ayres: Contract expires
Ayres wasn't retained by the Clippers after his second 10-day contract expired after the All-Star break, Chris Reichert of Upside Motor reports.
The Clippers replaced Ayres on the roster with Alex Stepheson, was signed to a 10-contract last week. Ayres will now head back to the D-League's Idaho Stampede following his five-game stint with the Clippers, during which he averaged 1.2 points and 0.6 rebounds over 2.8 minutes.

Ayres will get another 10 days before the Clippers have to decide whether they'll release him or sign him for the rest of the season. He's participated in two outings with the Clippers, averaging one point, 0.5 rebounds and 0.5 assists over 3.5 minutes per game. With Blake Griffin (hand) potentially out for up to two more months, Ayres offers another depth option in the frontcourt, although he's still not expected to be called upon as a regular member of the rotation.

The Clippers opened up a roster spot after trading Josh Smith to the Rockets on Friday morning and will bring on the former-Spur to fill the void. Ayres was drafted by the Idaho Stampede with the first pick in the NBA D-League draft this season and has averaged 16.3 points, 9.5 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 1.3 blocks, and 0.8 steals in 38 minutes per game through 23 games with the Stampede. The 28-year-old will give the Clippers' frontcourt some extra depth with Blake Griffin (quad) continuing to nurse a partially torn left quad tendon.
