Hassan Whiteside: Calls it a career
Whiteside announced Tuesday that he is retiring from basketball, Bleacher Report reports.
Whiteside last played for Puerto Rican club Piratas de Quebradillas but spent 10 seasons in the NBA, with his most recent stint coming in 2021-22 for Utah. Whiteside saw his best years in Miami, where he spent five seasons. In his best campaign in 2017-18, he averaged 17.0 points, 14.1 rebounds and 2.1 blocks in 32.6 minutes across 77 appearances.

Hassan Whiteside: Finds work in Puerto Rico
Whiteside agreed to a contract Tuesday with Puerto Rican club Piratas de Quebradillas, GuerraBSN.com reports.
After his contract with the Jazz expired following the 2021-22 season, the 33-year-old Whiteside attracted little interest in free agency over the past several months, so he'll now move on from the NBA for his next opportunity. Given his advancing age, along with the fact that his immense statistical production typically hasn't aligned with his on-court value, Whiteside's NBA career could very well be over. Over parts of 10 seasons in the league with the Kings, Heat, Trail Blazers, Kings and Jazz, Whiteside averaged 12.6 points, 10.8 rebounds and 2.2 blocks in 24.7 minutes while shooting 58.6 percent from the field over 511 appearances (332 starts). His best years came in Miami, with whom he earned an NBA All-Defensive Second Team honor in 2015-16.

Jazz's Hassan Whiteside: Ejected from Game 5
Whiteside was ejected from Monday's Game 5 against the Mavericks after being assessed two technical fouls, Tony Jones of The Athletic reports.
Whiteside was forced to hit the showers after getting into an altercation with the opposition during the fourth quarter. The game was already well in hand, so his absence didn't impact the outcome of the contest. Whiteside scored just two points for the fourth straight game and snagged six boards in 13 minutes.

Jazz's Hassan Whiteside: Posts second straight double-double
Whiteside amassed 15 points (5-9 FG, 5-8 FT), 11 rebounds, one assist and five blocks in 17 minutes during Wednesday's 137-101 win over the Thunder.
Both Whiteside and Rudy Gobert double-doubled in the blowout win, and Whiteside outpaced his counterpart with five swats. This was the veteran center's second straight double-double, and he blocked four shots in his previous contest against Memphis. Whiteside hasn't reached the 20-minute mark since March 12 but he continues to be a productive rebounder and shot-blocker.

Jazz's Hassan Whiteside: Double-double with four blocks
Whiteside amassed 14 points (7-10 FG, 0-2 FT), 10 rebounds and four blocks in 19 minutes during Tuesday's 121-115 overtime victory over the Grizzlies.
Whiteside hadn't offered much in recent games while dealing with a bone spur in his foot, but he pushed through it Tuesday to post easily his best fantasy line since mid-March. The backup big man has a considerably lower fantasy ceiling than he did during his days as a starter in Portland and Miami, but even in limited minutes, he can still be of use to managers in search of blocks.

Jazz's Hassan Whiteside: Minimal role in loss
Whiteside (foot) logged 10 minutes off the bench in Saturday's 111-107 loss to the Warriors, finishing with two points (1-2 FG), two rebounds and one block.
After a four-game absence, Whiteside returned to action in his normal role as the Jazz's backup center, but he saw less playing time than usual with starter Rudy Gobert logging 38 minutes. Whiteside will likely be at less-than-optimal health for the remainder of the season while he contends with a minor bone spur fracture in his foot, but the Jazz don't appear to be considering shutting him down.

Jazz's Hassan Whiteside: MRI confirms bone fracture
Whiteside's MRI confirmed that he suffered a minor bone spur fracture, and he can proceed with play as long as it isn't painful, Eric Walden of The Salt Lake Tribune reports.
Whiteside's injury is expected to heal on its own, and there are no medical procedures required. This means the center will be able to play as pain allows him to. Expect Greg Monroe to carry the backup center load until Whiteside is able to return.
