Dwight Buycks: Let go by Detroit
Buycks was waived by the Pistons on Thursday, Michael Scotto of The Athletic reports.
Buycks appeared in 29 games for the Pistons last season, posting 7.4 points and 2.0 assists across 14.7 minutes while shooting 41.4 percent from the field. He also drew 10 starts for the G-League's Grand Rapids Drive, averaging 22.1 points, 4.3 rebounds and 3.8 dimes while shooting 43.5 percent from the field. At this point, it may be tough for the 29-year-old to latch onto a rotation role at the NBA level.

Buycks avearged 7.4 points, 2.0 assists and 1.4 rebounds across 29 games played with the Pistons during the 2017-18 NBA season.
Buycks enjoyed his first season in the NBA since seeing six games for the Lakers during the 2014-15 season. The Marquette product had a stretch of games in which he scored double figures for four straight games and also produced a 22-point outing on Mar. 15. Buycks will be free to sign with any team next season as he will become a free agent when the summer hits.

Buycks totaled 22 points (8-15 FG, 1-3 3Pt, 5-6 FT), four assists, two steals and one rebound in 23 minutes during Thursday's 120-113 loss to Denver.
Buycks made his return after missing two consecutive games with an ankle concern. Although he came off the bench, he basically split the point-guard minutes with Ish Smith and was clearly the better player on the night. He is still not really a standard league option but the situation is worth keeping an eye on, especially given Smith's lackluster play of late.

The 28-year-old continues to provide a spark off the bench, as he's now posted double-digit point totals in two of the last three games and also scored nine points in the other contest during that sample. Buycks received the nod over Langston Galloway as the backup to starting point guard Ish Smith and certainly made a strong case to stick in head coach Stan Van Gundy's rotation beyond Wednesday. Though his status as a player signed to a two-way contract naturally limits Buycks' longevity with the team, the Pistons would likely be willing to sign the 28-year-old to a regular contract if his play warrants him sticking around once he's exhausted his 45 days at the NBA level.
