The move put an end to Thompson's tenure with the G League squad, at least for the time being. The 28-year-old battled a hip injury through much of the season, limiting him to five games. In those contests, he averaged 8.4 points and 3.8 rebounds in 16.9 minutes per contest.

Thompson scored two points (1-6 FG, 0-2 3Pt) and grabbed four rebounds in Wednesday's win over Northern Arizona.
Though Thompson struggled with his shot in the victory, his presence on the court was a welcome sight as the NBA veteran had not previously played this season due to a lingering hip injury. Thompson averaged 16.6 points and 6.3 rebounds in 30 G League games with Northern Arizona last season.

Thompson recently wrapped up his season with the G League's Northern Arizona Suns, during which he averaged 16.6 points, 6.2 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.5 triples in 34.0 minutes per game over 30 appearances. With the swingman apparently garnering no interest from NBA teams for a late-season callup, he'll play overseas for the next few months before returning stateside.

The scoring haul was a G League career high for Thompson, who typically plays more of a supporting role offensively for the Suns. In 24 outings with Northern Arizona this season, the 6-foot-8 swingman is averaging 15.8 points (on 40.9 percent shooting from the field), 6.5 boards, 2.7 assists, 1.5 triples and 1.0 steal in 33.8 minutes per game.

Pelicans' Hollis Thompson: Will move to bench Tuesday
Thompson will move to the bench for Tuesday's game against the Trail Blazers, Justin Verrier of ESPN.com reports.
Since joining the Pelicans on his first 10-day contract, Thompson has started eight of the nine games he's played, posting averages of 3.8 points, 3.1 rebounds and 1.0 assist across 21.1 minutes. He wasn't having much of an impact, which likely prompted coach Alvin Gentry to change up the starting five. Undrafted rookie Wayne Selden will start at shooting guard in his NBA debut and could take away most of the minutes that had been going to Thompson, who could fall out of the rotation as a result.
