McDaniels entered the starting lineup for the first time this year during Saturday's regular-season finale, and he was quite productive for the Swarm. He saw limited playing time off the bench during the G League campaign but averaged 6.5 points and 4.1 rebounds over 14.3 minutes per game.

McDaniels has frequently acted as the third-scoring option for the Blue, averaging 14.3 points in nine games this season. The lack of decisive minutes makes the guard a difficult play when looking for other categories such as rebounds or assists, but his scoring prowess is such where McDaniels remains on the edge when it comes to an intriguing fantasy candidate.

Though he boasts 148 regular-season games of NBA experience on his resume, McDaniels wasn't a serious threat to crack the Thunder's opening night roster. The 25-year-old is a candidate to remain with the organization and report to its G League affiliate, the Oklahoma City Blue.

McDaniels agreed to a contract with the Thunder earlier in September, Erik Horne of The Oklahoman reports.
McDaniels will join the Thunder on what likely is little more than a camp deal with limited guaranteed money. A 2014 second-round pick, McDaniels submitted a promising rookie campaign while splitting time with the 76ers and Rockets, but the swingman's lack of development as a shooter have dimmed his NBA prospects. He'll face long odds to crack the Thunder roster and could head to the G League's Oklahoma City Blue in the likely event he's cut before the regular season gets underway.

Trail Blazers' K.J. McDaniels: Spearheads SL championship game victory
McDaniels posted 17 points (8-14 FG, 0-2 3Pt, 1-2 FT), seven rebounds, one assist and one block across 20 minutes during the Trail Blazers' 91-73 win over the Lakers in the Las Vegas Summer League championship game Tuesday.
The three-year NBA veteran was critical to the win, leading the Blazers in scoring despite coming off the bench. McDaniels earned the title game MVP award for his efforts, which included zero turnovers. The 25-year-old's performance was especially timely, as he ultimately averaged only 6.7 points and 4.4 rebounds across 14.9 minutes over seven games in Las Vegas. McDaniels will now hope that his breakout in the most important contest of the tournament will be enough to earn him a training camp invite with Portland or elsewhere.

McDaniels will play with the Trail Blazers' summer league team, Michael Scotto of The Athletic reports.
McDaniels has three prior years of NBA experience, spending most of his time with the Rockets and 76ers, as well as a brief stint with the Nets. However, he was out of the NBA entirely during the 2017-18 campaign and will now head to summer league with the Trail Blazers with the hope of getting an invite to training camp. McDaniels played in 31 games in the G-League last season with the Grand Rapids Drive, averaging 16.2 points, 7.1 rebounds, 1.1 assists, 1.2 steals and 1.4 blocks across 27.4 minutes.

McDaniels was buried on the depth chart on the wing and hadn't seen the floor over the Raptors first two games of the season. That prompted his release Sunday, which now leaves the Raptors with an open roster spot. McDaniels could field some interest elsewhere in the NBA, but if not, he'll likely head to the G-League in an attempt to restore his value.

Raptors' K.J. McDaniels: Agrees to deal with Raptors
McDaniels has agreed to terms with the Raptors on a one-year, partially guaranteed contract, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports.
McDaniels was somewhat of a forgotten commodity this summer as many teams' free agency dollars dried up, but he'll head to Toronto on what's in all likelihood a minimum deal. The former Clemson standout spent time with both Houston and Brooklyn last season, appearing in 49 total games and averaging 4.2 points and 1.7 rebounds. The 24-year-old has shown flashes of promise as an athletic defender, but he struggles as a shooter and may face an uphill battle toward having his contract fully guaranteed by the Raptors.

Nets' K.J. McDaniels: Set to become unrestricted free agent
Brooklyn reportedly plans to decline McDaniels' team option making him an unrestricted free agent, Shams Charania of The Vertical reports.
The 24-year-old is no stranger to packing his things and relocating despite only have played just three seasons in the league. McDaniels didn't necessarily struggle last season with the Nets, but he was far from impressive posting just 4.2 points per game and 1.7 rebounds per game. Now that Brooklyn has added D'Angelo Russell to the mix, McDaniels quickly becomes an expendable player for the club during their rebuild. It's likely he'll find a new home given his youth, but there's no telling how big or small of a role he'll assume until he does.

McDaniels produced 15 points (5-13 FG, 1-6 3Pt, 4-4 FT), six rebounds and one block across 26 minutes during a 112-73 loss to the Bulls on Wednesday.
McDaniels was one point shy of his season high in scoring in the finale as the team rested a large portion of its roster. Wednesday's game marked the sixth time since McDaniels has been with the team that he has scored in double figures. He was one of three Nets players to reach double figures in the blowout loss to close out the season.
