Nurkic returned from a two-game absence due to illness/rest, moving straight into the starting lineup alongside the newly acquired Jaren Jackson. Utah opted to run with a sizeable lineup, an encouraging sign for anyone rostering Nurkic. With that said, we have already started to see some questionable absences, a situation that could get worse as the season progresses. Nurkic is part of the starting lineup for Saturday's game against the Magic, Andy Larsen of The Salt Lake Tribune reports.
Nurkic, surprisingly, will be part of a jumbo lineup that includes Keyonte George, Ace Bailey, Lauri Markkanen and Jaren Jackson. Nurkic had been a DNP-CD in back-to-back games, and the expectation was that Utah would opt for Nurkic to come off the bench while Jackson manned the center spot. However, it looks like Nurkic could remain in a significant role even with Jackson on the roster. In 38 regular-season appearances thus far, Nurkic is averaging 11.2 points, 10.2 rebounds and 4.9 assists across 26.6 minutes.

Jazz head coach Will Hardy said that Nurkic won't start Thursday's game against the Hawks, Andy Larsen of The Salt Lake Tribune reports.
Though Nurkic will technically be available Thursday, his presence on the bench likely indicates that the Jazz plan to stay away from using him. The Jazz took that approach in their most recent game Tuesday against the Pacers; Nurkic was initially ruled out in advance of the game for rest purposes, then was upgraded to available before he ultimately went unused off the bench. Kyle Filipowski started at center in that game and played 36 minutes, and he'll likely be in line for another hefty workload Thursday while the Jazz are short on available bodies in the aftermath of the trade deadline.
