Walter Tavares: Signs with Real Madrid
Tavares signed a three-year deal with Spanish club Real Madrid, Nicola Lupo of Sportnado reports.
Tavares was released by the Cavaliers during the preseason. He played just 101 minutes at the NBA level from 2015 to 2017, totaling 33 points, 32 rebounds and 12 blocks.

Cavaliers' Walter Tavares: Waived by Cavaliers
Tavares was released by the Cavaliers on Wednesday.
The Cavaliers ended up with an influx of players this year after trading for Isaiah Thomas, Jae Crowder and Ante Zizic from the Celtics and later acquiring Dwyane Wade. As a result, Tavares' name has been scratched from the roster ahead of the regular season. He's primarily a shot-blocking presence and could make for a deep reserve pickup for another NBA team or could opt to return to prominence in the G-League.

Cavaliers' Walter Tavares: Fractures bone in right hand
Tavares is out indefinitely after fracturing a bone in his right hand at practice Thursday, Marla Ridenour of the Akron Beacon Journal reports.
Tavares signed with the Cavs prior to the playoffs, as they needed some more frontcourt depth. He has not seen the court in the playoffs, and was not expected to. It is unclear how long the injury will keep him sidelined.

Cavaliers' Walter Tavares: To sign contract with Cavaliers
Tavares is expected to sign with the Cavaliers, Sam Amico of Fox Sports Ohio reports.
Tavares played in one game with the Hawks earlier this season, before being waived at the end of October. He's since spent time with the Raptors 905 of the D-League, playing in 48 games, while averaging 10.6 points, 7.7 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 2.7 blocks across 23.6 minutes. The 7-foot-3 big man possesses incredible size and should provide the Cavaliers a depth option at center that can rebound and operate as a rim protector. The Cavaliers are expected to release Larry Sanders in the corresponding move.

Walter Tavares: Reaches agreement with D-League team
Tavares reached an agreement earlier this month to sign with the D-League's Raptors 905.
Upon getting released by the Hawks on Oct. 31, Tavares humored the idea of heading overseas, but instead opted to continue his career in the D-League with the hope of eventually making it back to the NBA. Tavares has yet to debut for the 905 since signing with the team, but the 7-foot-3 center will give the team an active shot blocker once he's cleared to play.

Walter Tavares: Released by Hawks
Tavares was released by the Hawks on Monday, Shams Charania of The Vertical reports.
The Hawks made the move with the plan to sign Ryan Kelly, as it appears the strong play of Mike Muscala through the start of the regular season has left Atlanta feeling good about the center position with no need for Tavares. The big man is still young, however, at just 24 years old and boasts plenty of potential on the defensive end. He may end up in the D-League to start, but there is a chance he finds another home in the NBA before the season is over.

Hawks' Walter Tavares: Double-doubles off bench Thursday
Tavares totaled 15 points (7-8 FG, 1-2 FT), 10 rebounds, an assist and a block over 21 minutes in Thursday's 104-83 preseason victory over the Grizzlies.
The second-year center was outstanding while pacing the Hawks bench, serving as a dominating presence down low. At 7-foot-3, Tavares serves as a monstrous roadblock to the basket and turned in a solid Summer League performance that substantiated that potential (9.0 points, 7.8 rebounds and 2.7 blocks across six games). Although the oft-injured Tiago Splitter currently slots in behind Dwight Howard on the depth chart at the five, Tavares will have a chance to give the coaching staff something to think about if he can take advantage of his preseason opportunities.

Hawks' Walter Tavares: Efficient in summer league
Tavares averaged 9.0 points, 7.8 rebounds and 2.7 blocks in six Las Vegas Summer League games.
The 7-foot-3 center connected on nearly 64 percent of his field goals, while grabbing at least seven rebounds in five of the Hawks' six games. While his massive size is intriguing, it remains somewhat unclear as to how far away Tavares is from truly contributing at the NBA level. Last season, Tavares appeared in only 11 games, spending most of the year in the D-League, where he put up 9.2 points, 8.4 rebounds and 3.3 blocks in 21.6 minutes per game.

Hawks' Walter Tavares: Rejoining Hawks on Friday
Tavares will be recalled from the D-League's Austin Spurs and rejoin the Hawks on Friday in advance of their Game 3 tilt with the Celtics, Chris Vivlamore of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
Both Tavares and Lamar Patterson had been shuttling between the Hawks and Austin while both teams competed in the postseason for their respective leagues. With Austin being eliminated with a loss Wednesday, Tavares now figures to stick with the Hawks for the rest of the season. The big man is unlikely to play much during the Hawks' playoff run, however, as has been the case all season in what's been a developmental year for Tavares.

Hawks' Walter Tavares: To remain in D-League
Tavares will remain with the Austin Toros throughout the D-League postseason, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
Both Tavares and Lamar Patterson will remain in the D-League for as long as the Toros are alive. Austin enters the playoffs, which begin Tuesday, as the likely winner of their conference, meaning they'll face a Wild Card team in the first round. All rounds are best of three series, so Tavares and Patterson figures to remain away from the Hawks for another 7-10 days, at the minimum.
