  • Tacko Fall: Signs with club in New Zealand

Fall signed a contract to play for the BNZ Breakers of the New Zealand National Basketball League during its tour of the United States in the preseason, Sam DiGiovanni of ClutchPoints.comreports.

The 7-foot-6 center has spent time in China since his departure from the NBA, but now Fall will have the opportunity to play against the 76ers, Jazz and Thunder during the preseason with the Breakers. The 28-year-old will attempt to show he can still play at the NBA level during the preseason. Fall hasn't played in the NBA since the 2021-22 season, during which he averaged 1.1 points and 2.1 rebounds across 11 regular-season appearances for the Cavaliers.

The Cavaliers waived Fall on Sunday, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports.

With the likes of Jarrett Allen, Evan Mobley and Ed Davis all representing more traditional centers and Kevin Love and Lauri Markkanen on hand as floor-stretching options at the five, the Cavaliers didn't have much of a need to keep the 7-foot-6 Fall around as a depth piece. He appeared in just 11 games for the NBA team this season, averaging 1.1 points and 2.1 rebounds in 5.4 minutes. With the losses of Collin Sexton (knee) and Ricky Rubio (knee) testing its depth in the backcourt, Cleveland will cut Fall loose and hand his two-way spot to a guard (Brandon Goodwin).
