Timberwolves' Skylar Mays: Signs deal with Minnesota
Mays agreed to a contract with Minnesota on Monday, Michael Scotto of USA Today reports.
Mays offers decent NBA experience at the guard position, logging 38 combined appearances for the Trail Blazers and Lakers in 2023-24. In 105 career NBA games, Mays posted averages of 4.3 points, 1.7 assists and 1.2 rebounds.

Lakers' Skylar Mays: Joins Lakers on two-way deal
The Lakers signed Mays to a two-way deal Monday, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports.
Mays, who was waived by Portland on Saturday, has quickly found a new home, joining Dylan Windler as a new addition to the Lakers' roster. The Lakers' point guard struggles have been well-documented this season, with Austin Reaves ultimately taking the reins from D'Angelo Russell, who was benched in mid-December. Mays doesn't have a clear path to playing time and will likely spend most of his time at the G League level, but he does bolster the Lakers' guard depth and could crack the rotation if the struggles continue.

Skylar Mays: Let go by Portland
The Trail Blazers waived Mays on Saturday.
Mays averaged 6.3 points, 3.6 assists and 1.8 rebounds in 17.0 minutes across 21 appearances with Portland in 2023-24. Most of Mays' playing time came earlier in the season while Portland was shorthanded in the backcourt, but his opportunities have become more scarce of late while all of Anfernee Simons, Malcolm Brogdon, Scoot Henderson and Shaedon Sharpe have been healthy. The Trail Blazers evidently decided that his roster spot could better be utilized on another player.

Trail Blazers' Skylar Mays: Minutes boosted with Simons out
Mays had zero points (0-8 FG, 0-4 3Pt), three rebounds and one steal over 14 minutes during Thursday's 118-105 loss to the Spurs.
An absence from Anfernee Simons (illness) resulted in Mays seeing his most minutes since Dec. 14 against the Jazz. However, Mays was off his game, missing all eight shot attempts. In fact, the point guard hasn't made a field goal since Nov. 21. He's only likely to have fantasy relevance again if injuries decimate Portland's backcourt.

Trail Blazers' Skylar Mays: Back to bench
Mays will return to the bench for Tuesday's game against the Suns.
Malcolm Brogdon (hamstring) is returning from a five-game absence and is back with the starters. Mays played well for Portland in recent games, so it's likely he will maintain a decent role until Scoot Henderson (ankle) gets clearance.

Trail Blazers' Skylar Mays: Solid in loss Friday
Mays ended Friday's 107-95 loss to the Lakers with 15 points (6-14 FG, 3-7 3Pt), five rebounds, eight assists and two steals over 26 minutes.
Mays started again in the absence of Scoot Henderson (ankle) and Malcolm Brogdon (hamstring), and he put up his fourth double-digit scoring effort over his past five games. The fourth-year point guard also led the Blazers with eight assists, and he's averaging a shiny 9.0 dimes during that five-game stretch. The returns of Brogdon and Henderson will eventually eat into Mays' opportunities, but as long as he's playing 30-plus minutes per game, he's worth a look in fantasy as an assist specialist capable of sprinkling in modest scoring with non-destructive shooting percentages.

Trail Blazers' Skylar Mays: Hands out 10 dimes
Mays closed with six points (3-8 FG, 0-1 3Pt), 10 assists, five rebounds and two blocks across 31 minutes during Tuesday's 115-99 loss to the Jazz.
Since Malcolm Brogdon went down with a hamstring injury early in the Trail Blazers' 121-118 loss to the Kings on Nov. 8, Mays has proven to be an elite source of assists. He came off the bench against Sacramento to dish out 11 assists, that dropped 12 and 10 dimes in his first two starts of the season. With Scoot Henderson (ankle) likely out until at least late November and Brogdon at risk of missing additional contests, Mays will be worthy of a roster spot in most leagues while he has a clear path to 30-plus minutes as the Blazers' starting point guard.

Trail Blazers' Skylar Mays: Double-doubles in starting role
Mays posted 15 points (7-13 FG, 0-4 3Pt, 1-2 FT), 12 assists and four rebounds over 33 minutes during Sunday's 116-110 loss to the Lakers.
Making his first start of the season with Scoot Henderson (ankle) set to miss 2-to-3 more weeks and Malcolm Brogdon (hamstring) also day-to-day, Mays proved to be an excellent fantasy option for managers who streamed him for assists. With Anfernee Simons (thumb) also out indefinitely and Brogdon likely to miss more time given his durability concerns, Mays could continue to produce for managers as Portland opens a four-game week. During six late-season starts in 2022-23 with the Trail Blazers, Mays posted averages of 15.3 points, 8.3 assists, 3.2 rebounds, 2.0 three-pointers and 1.0 steals in 31.5 minutes while shooting 50 percent from the field and 92.3 percent from the free-throw line.

Trail Blazers' Skylar Mays: Starting Sunday
Mays is starting Sunday's game against the Lakers, Casey Holdahl of the Trail Blazers' official site reports.
The Trail Blazers are shorthanded in the backcourt Sunday with Malcolm Brogdon (hamstring) unavailable, so Mays will join the starting lineup for the first time this season. Brogdon exited Wednesday's overtime loss to the Kings with his injury, and Mays stepped up with 18 points, 11 assists, two rebounds and two steals in 37 minutes. He'll attempt to remain productive Sunday and should see plenty of minutes.

Trail Blazers' Skylar Mays: Contract converted to standard deal
Mays had his two-way contract converted to a standard deal Saturday, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports.
Mays has shown some promise off the bench for the Trail Blazers this year, including a double-double in 37 minutes during Wednesday's overtime loss to the Kings. He should have a more limited role when Malcolm Brogdon (hamstring) is healthy, but Mays will have a chance to continue contributing for the parent club.

Trail Blazers' Skylar Mays: Solid game after Brogdon exit
Mays finished with 18 points (8-15 FG, 0-2 3Pt, 2-2 FT), two rebounds, 11 assists and two steals over 37 minutes during Wednesday's 121-118 overtime loss to the Kings.
The Trail Blazers showed off their backcourt depth with Mays, who aptly filled in after Malcolm Brogdon (hamstring) exited the game. The extent of Brogdon's injury is unknown, but with Anfernee Simons (thumb) and Scoot Henderson (ankle) also sidelined, we should expect to see a lot more from Mays if Brogdon's hamstring forces him to miss more time.

Trail Blazers' Skylar Mays: Inefficient shooting in loss
Mays racked up seven points (2-9 FG, 1-5 3Pt, 2-2 FT), one rebound, two assists and two steals across 16 minutes during Sunday's 112-100 loss to the Grizzlies.
After seeing double-digit minutes just once through Portland's first five games, Mays has played at least 15 minutes in back-to-back contests. His increased playing time is likely due to Scoot Henderson's (ankle) absence. Mays hasn't exactly taken advantage of his opportunity, shooting just 29.4 percent from the floor over the last two contests, but he has tallied three steals during that stretch.

Trail Blazers' Skylar Mays: Scores 21 in season finale
Mays accumulated 21 points (7-17 FG, 2-7 3Pt, 5-5 FT), four rebounds, 12 assists and three steals in 41 minutes during Sunday's 157-101 loss to Golden State.
Mays inked a 10-day deal with the Trail Blazers in late March and signed a rest-of-the-season deal on April 9. He started all six of his appearances and averaged 15.3 points with 8.3 assists per contest, but it must be noted he saw regular playing time when the Blazers had all their starters shut down and with the team out of playoff contention. Given the Trail Blazers have Damian Lillard, Anfernee Simons and Shaedon Sharpe on the roster for next season, it's hard to imagine a scenario where they opt to re-sign Mays this summer.

Trail Blazers' Skylar Mays: Signs for rest of season
Mays signed a rest-of-season contract with the Trail Blazers on Sunday.
Mays signed a 10-day contract at the end of March and has started five straight contests, posting 14.2 points, 7.6 assists and 3.0 rebounds in 29.6 minutes. His initial deal was set to expire, so Portland signed him to another contract for the final game of the campaign. Given his strong play, Mays should garner some interest as a free agent this summer.

Trail Blazers' Skylar Mays: Seven assists in start
Mays registered 11 points (4-7 FG, 1-3 3Pt, 2-2 FT), two rebounds, seven assists, one block and one steal over 22 minutes during Thursday's 129-127 loss to the Spurs.
With the Trail Blazers essentially shutting down most of their regulars, Mays, who's operating under a two-way contract, has drawn four straight starts and finished with at least 10 points and six assists in each of those contests. During that stretch, he's averaged 15.5 points, 7.3 assists, 3.8 rebounds and 0.8 steals in 29.5 minutes with 60/52/100 shooting splits.
