  • Knicks' Jose Alvarado: Headed to bench

Alvarado will come off the bench for Friday's game in Brooklyn, James L. Edwards III of The Athletic reports. Jalen Brunson (ankle/neck) is back and starting, so Alvarado will shift back to a reserve role. Through 18 games with the Knicks this season, Alvarado has averaged 6.2 points, 4.0 assists, 1.1 triples and 1.1 steals per contest.

  • Knicks' Jose Alvarado: Thrives in spot start

Alvarado posted 16 points (5-10 FG, 4-7 3Pt, 2-2 FT), two rebounds, 10 assists and two steals across 27 minutes during Tuesday's 136-110 win over the Pacers. Alvarado moved into the starting lineup for the first time since joining the Knicks, replacing Jalen Brunson, who was given the night off to manage some nagging injuries. Alvarado made the most of his opportunity, recording his first double-double of the season. While this was a great performance, managers need only look at his previous 14 games to understand why this effort is not worth chasing.

  • Knicks' Jose Alvarado: Starting sans Brunson

Alvarado will be in the starting lineup for Tuesday's game against the Pacers, Kristian Winfield of the New York Daily News reports. With Jalen Brunson (neck/ankle) sitting out Tuesday, Alvarado is in line for his first start of the season. He hasn't reached the 20-minute mark since the Feb. 24 loss to the Cavaliers, but Alvarado looks to be a viable plug-and-play option for fantasy managers in a pinch.

  • Knicks' Jose Alvarado: Plays the thief in narrow win

Alvarado finished with eight points (3-9 FG, 2-5 3Pt), one rebound, four assists and five steals over 20 minutes during Saturday's 108-106 victory over the Rockets. Alvarado's scoring total was low, but he was a key element on defense in the narrow win. He made the most of his 20 minutes with a season-high five steals. Although it would take a string of injuries for the former Pelican to see a larger role in New York, his acquisition provides much-needed support for the team's elite backcourt.

  • Knicks' Jose Alvarado: Shines in season-best outing

Alvarado amassed 26 points (8-13 FG, 8-13 3Pt, 2-3 FT), three rebounds, four assists and five steals in 19 minutes during Wednesday's 138-89 victory over Philadelphia. It was perhaps Alvarado's finest performance of the year, as he set a season high in points, steals and treys. The 27-year-old point guard is quicky settling into a significant role since landing in New York, but his fantasy upside is likely to remain capped while Jalen Brunson is healthy and Landry Shamet continues to play big minutes. Through three games with the Knicks, Alvarado is averaging 14.0 points, 3.7 assists, 2.3 steals in and 3.3 three-pointers 20.7 minutes per game.

  • Knicks' Jose Alvarado: Productive off bench in team debut

Alvarado accumulated 12 points (5-12 FG, 2-6 3Pt), two rebounds, two assists, two steals and one block over 25 minutes during Sunday's 111-89 win over the Celtics. Alvarado made an immediate impact in his Knicks debut, reaching double figures and recording three stocks off the bench. In 41 games with the Pelicans this season, the scrappy guard averaged 7.9 points, 3.1 assists, 2.8 rebounds and 0.9 steals in 21.9 minutes per contest. While his role may fluctuate from night to night, Alvarado projects as a high-energy reserve capable of providing consistent defensive intensity for head coach Mike Brown.

  • Knicks' Jose Alvarado: Set to make team debut Sunday

Alvarado (recently traded) is not on the injury report ahead of Sunday's game against the Celtics. Alvarado was acquired by the Knicks from the Pelicans on Thursday in exchange for Dalen Terry and two second-round picks. With the trade being finalized, Alvarado is on track to make his debut with New York on Sunday, and he could see a sizable role right out of the gate if Josh Hart (ankle) is unable to play. Alvarado averaged 7.9 points, 3.1 assists, 2.8 rebounds, 1.7 threes and 0.9 steals over 21.9 minutes per game with the Pelicans prior to Thursday's trade.

  • Knicks' Jose Alvarado: Won't debut Friday

Alvarado (not injury related) will not debut Friday against the Pistons. Alvarado was acquired by the Knicks at the trade deadline, but his debut won't happen until Sunday in Boston, at the earliest. With Miles McBride (abdominal) sidelined indefinitely, Alvarado is expected to slot in as the backup point guard behind Jalen Brunson.

  • Knicks' Jose Alvarado: Traded to New York

The Pelicans traded Alvarado to the Knicks on Thursday, Shams Charania of ESPN reports. Dalen Terry and two second-round picks will head to New Orleans. Alvarado was heavily linked to the Knicks in recent weeks, so it's not a surprise to see this come to fruition. The Knicks do have a quality backup point guard behind Jalen Brunson in Miles McBride (ankle), but the latter has struggled to stay healthy. Alvarado will bolster New York's backcourt depth after averaging 7.9 points, 3.1 assists and 0.9 steals in 21.9 minutes across 41 regular-season appearances with the Pelicans. He's questionable to make his debut Friday against the Pistons.

  • Pelicans' Jose Alvarado: Logs 30 minutes in loss

Alvarado finished with three points (1-7 FG, 1-6 3Pt) and three assists over 30 minutes during Monday's 102-95 loss to Charlotte. Alvarado saw at least 30 minutes for just the sixth time this season, although he failed to have any sort of tangible impact. While he does provide the Pelicans with an energetic on-court presence, his efforts often go unrewarded in terms of fantasy value. In seven appearances over the past month, he has averaged just 7.0 points, 3.1 assists and 2.0 three-pointers in 20.9 minutes per contest.

  • Pelicans' Jose Alvarado: Takes on 13-minute role in return

Alvarado (oblique) tallied six points (2-5 FG, 2-5 3Pt), five rebounds and one assist across 13 minutes Sunday in the Pelicans' 104-95 win over the Spurs. Following a nine-game absence due to an oblique strain, Alvarado made his return to action Sunday and reclaimed a spot on the Pelicans' second unit. When healthy, Alvarado has mostly served as the top backup at point guard to Jeremiah Fears, but the two played alongside one another off the bench while interim head coach James Borrego dropped Jordan Poole from the rotation and ran out a starting five lacking a true point guard. Borrego could shake up the lineup at some point, but Alvarado seems likely to continue operating off the bench and could struggle to regain a consistent 20-plus-minute role while the Pelicans have all their key contributors available, save for Dejounte Murray (Achilles).

  • Pelicans' Jose Alvarado: Chance to return Sunday

Alvarado (oblique) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against San Antonio. Alvarado has been sidelined since Jan. 6 due to a strained left oblique, but the backup guard has a chance at returning Sunday. Considering he's missed nine consecutive games, Alvarado could have his minutes monitored once cleared for game action. If he's able to play Sunday, he could cut into the workloads of Jeremiah Fears and Jordan Poole, while Jordan Hawkins would likely have a tougher time cracking the rotation.

  • Pelicans' Jose Alvarado: Likely to miss two more weeks

Pelicans interim head coach James Borrego said Monday that Alvarado (oblique) is "closer to two weeks away" from playing again, Rod Walker of The Times-Picayune reports. Alvarado has already missed three games in a row due to a left oblique strain, and the Pelicans seemingly want to give him even more time to get the issue resolved. While Alvarado remains sidelined, Jeremiah Fears should have a higher minutes floor as the Pelicans' starting point guard, and players such as Micah Peavy and Bryce McGowens could also have longer leashes in the rotation.

  • Pelicans' Jose Alvarado: Remains out Sunday

Alvarado (oblique) is out for Sunday's game against the Magic. Alvarado will miss a third straight game due to this injury, and Sunday's absence will also mark the fifth game he's been sidelined over the Pelicans' last eight contests. The veteran guard will aim to return against the Nuggets on Tuesday.

  • Pelicans' Jose Alvarado: Handed two-game ban

The NBA issued Alvarado a two-game suspension engaging in a physical altercation with the Suns' Mark Williams during Saturday's 123-114 loss to Phoenix, Shams Charania of ESPN reports. Alvarado was ejected from Saturday's contest after throwing a punch at Williams following an exchange ignited by a screen. The veteran point guard will miss games Monday against the Knicks and Wednesday in Chicago before he's eligible to return to action Friday against the Trail Blazers.

  • Pelicans' Jose Alvarado: Ejected Saturday

Alvarado was ejected from Saturday's game against the Suns after engaging in a physical altercation with Mark Williams, Will Guillory of The Athletic reports. Alvarado got upset with Williams over a tough screen and both players quickly exchanged punches, with Alvarado landing one on Williams before the scuffle was stopped by several players who surrounded it. Alvarado posted seven points (3-7 FG, 1-3 3Pt), three assists and two steals across 14 minutes off the bench.

  • Pelicans' Jose Alvarado: Dishes six assists in loss

Alvarado finished Monday's 135-132 loss to the Spurs with 10 points (4-7 FG, 2-5 3Pt), three rebounds, six assists, one block and one steal in 31 minutes. In addition to scoring 10 points on two threes made, Alvarado also notched his second block of the season and extended his streak of games with at least one steal to four. Alvarado has been important for New Orleans, backing up rookie Jeremiah Fears off the bench and averaging 13.1 points, 3.4 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 1.5 steals, 0.3 blocks and 2.6 threes on a 40.4 percent clip across 28.3 minutes in his last eight games.

  • Pelicans' Jose Alvarado: Headed to locker room

Alvarado went to the locker room during Thursday's game versus the Timberwolves, Rod Walker of The Times-Picayune reports. Alvarado got tangled up with Julius Randle fighting for a loose ball and seemed to tweak something in his left elbow. He appeared to be in a great deal of pain and ran straight back to the locker room, so he should be considered doubtful to return with just seven minutes left in regulation.

  • Pelicans' Jose Alvarado: Flirts with triple-double in win

Alvarado posted 16 points (7-16 FG, 2-9 3Pt), eight rebounds, eight assists and two steals over 32 minutes during Monday's 143-130 victory over the Bulls. Alvarado turned in an impressive all-around performance Monday as the Pelicans finally snapped a nine-game losing streak. Alvarado has taken advantage of the opportunity with Jordan Poole (quadriceps), Herbert Jones (calf) and Jordan Hawkins (personal) all missing time, but once New Orleans gets healthier, Alvarado is likely to take a backseat.

  • Pelicans' Jose Alvarado: Matches season high in scoring

Alvarado notched 18 points (6-12 FG, 3-8 3Pt, 3-3 FT), one rebound and three assists in 25 minutes during Sunday's 124-106 loss to the Warriors. Alvarado tied a season high in points, and it was his first time reaching double digits since the Nov. 5 win in Dallas. The guard should continue to take on a regular role in the rotation until Jordan Poole (quadriceps) is healthy and Dejounte Murray (Achilles) is cleared for his season debut. Alvarado has averaged 7.8 points, 2.6 assists, 2.4 rebounds and 0.9 steals in 19.6 minutes per contest across 12 games this season.
