Top Reed Sheppard News

  • Rockets' Reed Sheppard: Chips in full stat line

Sheppard ended Wednesday's 105-102 loss to the Clippers with 17 points (6-13 FG, 5-10 3Pt), two rebounds, four assists, one block and one steal across 25 minutes.

With Fred VanVleet (knee) sidelined, Sheppard is locking down a big role in the backcourt during the first part of the season. The second-year guard has averaged 10.8 points, 3.1 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.5 steals in 23.7 minutes per contest in his last 10 games, but he's shooting only 36.5 percent from the floor during this stretch.

  • Rockets' Reed Sheppard: Logs 30 minutes Tuesday

Sheppard logged 16 points (6-10 FG, 4-6 3Pt), six rebounds, four assists, one block and two steals across 30 minutes during Tuesday's 102-95 win over the Clippers.

Sheppard logged at least 30 minutes for the second straight game, with head coach Ime Udoka opting to run with an eight-man rotation. While this was certainly an encouraging performance, managers are right to be skeptical when it comes to Sheppard's playing time. He is worth adding if he was dropped in your league, although do so with caution, given what we have seen in Houston this season.

  • Rockets' Reed Sheppard: Won't start Tuesday

Sheppard won't start Tuesday's game against the Clippers, Lachard Binkley of SI.com reports.

Sheppard got the starting nod in Saturday's win over the Thunder due to Amen Thompson being under the weather, though the former will slide back to the second unit Tuesday. Over his last five outings off the bench, Sheppard has averaged 8.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, 1.4 steals and 1.0 assists across 22.0 minutes per tilt.

  • Rockets' Reed Sheppard: Starting vs. OKC

Sheppard will start against the Thunder on Saturday, Will Guillory of The Athletic reports.

Amen Thompson is available to play off the bench but is battling an illness, so Sheppard will step into the starting five for the second time this month. As a starter this season (five games), the second-year guard has averaged 13.4 points, 4.2 assists, 4.0 rebounds, 2.2 steals and 1.0 blocks in 28.6 minutes per contest.

  • Rockets' Reed Sheppard: Slides back to bench

Sheppard isn't part of the starting lineup for Wednesday's game against Boston, Lachard Binkley of SI.com reports.

Sheppard made a spot start Monday due to the absence of Kevin Durant, but now that Durant is healthy, Sheppard will return to a reserve role. Since the start of January, Sheppard is averaging 11.3 points, 2.3 assists, 1.9 rebounds and 1.1 steals across 22.8 minutes per game.

  • Rockets' Reed Sheppard: Only 25 minutes despite start

Sheppard chipped in 11 points (4-13 FG, 1-7 3Pt, 2-2 FT), two rebounds, five assists, one block and two steals in 25 minutes during Monday's 118-114 win over the Pacers.

Sheppard chipped in across the board, reminding everyone what he can do when meaningful playing time comes his way. Although he was elevated into the starting lineup, Sheppard was limited to just 25 minutes, a concern for fantasy managers. Given this was basically a best-case scenario, there is cause for concern when Kevin Durant (ankle) returns from injury.

  • Rockets' Reed Sheppard: Set to start sans Durant

Sheppard will be in the starting lineup for Monday's game against the Pacers, Vanessa Richardson of Space City Home Network reports.

Kevin Durant is tending to an ankle issue Monday, so the Rockets are turning to Sheppard to fill the void in the first unit. It's set to be the fifth start of the campaign for Sheppard, who has averaged 14.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 2.3 steals and 1.0 blocks in 29.7 minutes per game as a starter this year.

  • Rockets' Reed Sheppard: Limited in win Saturday

Sheppard notched six points (3-8 FG, 0-4 3Pt), one rebound, one assist, one block and two steals in 17 minutes during Saturday's 111-107 victory over the Mavericks.

Sheppard logged just 17 minutes, continuing what has been a frustrating past month. In 17 appearances during that time, he has averaged just 22.7 minutes per game, providing 11.3 points, 1.0 steals and 2.0 three-pointers. While the talent is undeniable, the fact head coach Ime Udoka refuses to afford him starter-level minutes can't be ignored. As of right now, managers should view him as nothing more than a streaming option in standard leagues.

  • Rockets' Reed Sheppard: Three-point streak ends

Sheppard finished with four points (2-11 FG, 0-7 3Pt), four rebounds and one block across 15 minutes during Monday's 108-99 win over the Grizzlies.

Sheppard's performance against Memphis was an aberration compared to the rest of his season so far. His four points set a new season-low mark in scoring, while 15 minutes of action also matched a season-low total. Most notably, Sheppard's streak of at least one made three-pointer in 39 consecutive games ended after he missed all seven of his attempts Monday.

  • Rockets' Reed Sheppard: Drops 18 points Friday

Sheppard ended Friday's 111-104 win over the Pistons with 18 points (6-15 FG, 1-7 3Pt, 5-5 FT), one assist and one steal in 25 minutes.

Sheppard scored in double digits for the fifth straight game, continuing to flirt with standard-league value. While Houston continues to deal with its share of injuries, Sheppard has been unable to step into a starter-level role. In eight appearances over the past two weeks, he has averaged 12.4 points, 1.0 steals and 2.5 three-pointers in just 21.2 minutes per contest.

  • Rockets' Reed Sheppard: Standout performance in win

Sheppard posted 21 points (8-17 FG, 4-10 3Pt, 1-2 FT), two rebounds, four assists, one block and one steal across 29 minutes during Tuesday's 111-106 win over San Antonio.

Sheppard reminded everyone what he is capable of when afforded meaningful minutes, scoring at least 20 points for just the second time in the past 16 games. Trailing by as much as 16 points, Houston was able to turn the tables late, on the back of some fantastic play by Sheppard. While this was certainly a standout performance, fantasy managers are right to remain skeptical given the lack of trust from head coach Ime Udoka. If Sheppard was dropped in your league, he could be worth picking up, just in case this is the start of a turnaround.

  • Rockets' Reed Sheppard: Limited role continues

Sheppard produced eight points (3-8 FG, 2-5 3Pt), one rebound and one assist over 22 minutes during Tuesday's 119-113 victory over the Bulls.

Sheppard scored in single digits for the fourth time in the past six games, continuing to play a limited role off the bench. Despite the fact that Tari Eason is dealing with an ankle injury, it appears Sheppard isn't tabbed for an extensive role, and JD Davison was used down the stretch Tuesday.

  • Rockets' Reed Sheppard: Notches 20 points in loss

Sheppard ended with 20 points (8-21 FG, 4-11 3Pt), three rebounds, four assists and one steal across 34 minutes during Friday's 111-105 loss to the Trail Blazers.

For the fifth time this season, Sheppard reached 20 points for Houston. He needed a night like this one, as he's been held in check for the most part recently. Over his last four games, he's shooting 38.0 percent from the field with averages of 11.8 points, 3.0 assists, 2.0 rebounds, 1.0 steals and 2.0 three-pointers.
