76ers' Jared McCain: Ruled out for season
The 76ers confirmed in a press release Friday that McCain (knee) will miss the remainder of the 2024-25 season, Kyle Neubeck of AllPHLY.com reports.
After undergoing surgery Dec. 17 to repair a lateral meniscus tear in his left knee, McCain was labeled as out indefinitely. Following a checkup earlier Friday with the surgeon who performed the surgery, McCain was deemed to be progressing well in his recovery, but the 76ers are officially closing the door on his rookie season. Before suffering the knee injury, McCain had emerged as a frontrunner for NBA Rookie of the Year honors after averaging 15.3 points, 2.6 assists, 2.4 rebounds, 2.2 three-pointers and 0.7 steals across 25.7 minutes per game in 23 appearances (eight starts). McCain will now turn his focus to completing his lengthy rehab and recovery process ahead of the 2025-26 campaign.

76ers' Jared McCain: Suffers meniscus tear
The 76ers announced Saturday that following Friday's game versus the Pacers, an MRI revealed a lateral meniscus tear in McCain's left knee. The rookie guard will undergo surgery and is out indefinitely, Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports reports.
McCain's meniscus is a major blow to Philadelphia, as the team's laundry list of injuries has resulted in a 7-16 record. McCain had been the Rookie of the Year frontrunner, as he was averaging 15.3 points, 2.6 assists and 2.4 rebounds in 25.7 minutes on 46.0/38.3/87.5 shooting splits across his first 23 appearances. While the 20-year-old guard hasn't been ruled out for the remainder of the 2024-25 campaign yet, he is set to miss a significant period. Reggie Jackson and Kyle Lowry (back) are candidates to receive increased playing time in his absence.

76ers' Jared McCain: Checks back into game Friday
McCain (head) cleared the concussion protocol and checked back into Friday's game against the Pacers, Kyle Neubeck of AllPHLY.com reports.
McCain suffered a hard fall and smacked his head on the floor in the process. While it was possible he wouldn't be allowed to return to the game due to concussion protocol, he seems to have passed the tests, meaning he can return.

76ers' Jared McCain: Heads to locker room
McCain suffered a hard fall and was removed from Friday's game against the Pacers, heading straight into the locker room to be checked out due to a possible concussion, Austin Krell of USA Today reports.
McCain suffered a hard fall to the court that included a smack of his head to the floor, and while he shot his free throws, the 76ers elected to remove him from the game right away. If he clears concussion protocol while in the locker room, McCain will be eligible to re-enter the contest, and he returned to the bench shortly after exiting. His status for the rest of the game is questionable.

76ers' Jared McCain: Starts second half Friday
McCain (concussion) finished with five points (2-6 FG, 1-2 3Pt), one rebound and three assists over 29 minutes during Friday's 121-107 loss to the Pacers.
McCain was able to return to Friday's contest after being evaluated for a concussion, and while his output in the box score was muted, it's worth noting he started the second half for the injured Joel Embiid (face). The rookie first-rounder has shined when given the chance to be a member of the first unit this season, averaging 23.8 points, 4.3 assists, 3.4 rebounds, 0.9 steals and 3.6 three-pointers in 36.6 minutes per game over eight appearances as a starter. If Embiid can't play in Monday's game against Charlotte, McCain would be a candidate to join the starting lineup and likely offer more fantasy upside if tasked with an enhanced role.
