Harper ended with 18 points (7-17 FG, 0-2 3Pt, 4-4 FT), seven rebounds and five assists across 32 minutes during Tuesday's 116-104 loss to Oklahoma City.
Harper had a busy night in the starting lineup, finishing second on the Spurs in scoring and tying Fox and Stephon Castle for second in rebounds. His shooting was inconsistent, but he got to the line and contributed as a playmaker.

Spurs' Dylan Harper: Spurs exercise team option
The Spurs exercised the team option on Harper for the 2027-28 season, Jared Weiss of The Athletic reports.
Harper had a quality 2025-26 campaign, averaging 11.8 points, 3.4 rebounds and 3.9 assists over 22.6 minutes per contest in 69 regular-season games, including four starts. The 2025 No. 2 overall pick has All-Star upside, though it may take him another year or two before he gets to that point. Harper will presumably continue to come off the bench behind De'Aaron Fox and Stephon Castle in 2026-27, but he should consistently see more minutes than some of the starters around the NBA.

Harper led San Antonio in scoring in the rout, bouncing back nicely after managing just nine points against Phoenix on Wednesday. The No. 2 overall pick in 2025 started Friday's finale and looks ready for a bigger role in his sophomore campaign.

The Spurs continue to experiment with three-guard looks, which essentially feature De'Aaron Fox at point guard, Harper at shooting guard and Stephon Castle at small forward. While Harper may not work as a full-time starter this year, San Antonio appears early on to be committed to finding ways to get Harper in the lineup often.

Harper led the Spurs in scoring despite playing slightly over 20 minutes, and he got the start in the backcourt due to the absence of De'Aaron Fox (undisclosed). If Fox is healthy for Opening Night against the Thunder on Oct. 20, however, Harper will move to a bench role, although that shouldn't stop him from seeing plenty of minutes on a regular basis.

Harper was one of six players to score in double digits for the Spurs, and he led all San Antonio players in scoring. No player outside of Carter Bryant logged more than 20 minutes for the Spurs, and Harper doesn't need to log heavy minutes in preseason since he's locked into a prominent role ahead of the 2026-27 season -- even if he's not listed as a starter in the backcourt.
