Timberwolves' Anthony Edwards: Officially undergoes surgery
Edwards underwent a successful arthroscopic procedure on his right knee Thursday, the Timberwolves announced.
Edwards underwent debridement surgery in Minnesota, though the team did not provide a timetable for his return. The star guard is expected to make a full recovery, with additional updates coming as he progresses through rehabilitation. Based on previous reporting from ESPN's Shams Charania, Edwards could miss up to two months. Edwards was off to a scorching start this season, averaging 33.3 points, 4.8 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.0 steals across four appearances.

Timberwolves' Anthony Edwards: Set to undergo knee surgery
Edwards will undergo arthroscopic right knee surgery and is expected to miss up to two months, Shams Charania of ESPN reports.
This is a tough blow after a torrid start to the season for Edwards, and it looks like we might not see him again until 2027. Ayo Dosunmu will likely be elevated to a starting role while Edwards is sidelined, while LaMelo Ball, Jaden McDaniels and Jonathan Kuminga will see a bump in usage. There will also be more minutes available for Terrence Shannon, Bones Hyland and Cody Williams.

After a red-hot opening game, Edwards came crashing back to earth Friday, shooting just 5-of-23 from the field. While it wasn't his night offensively, he did manage to record a game-high four steals, salvaging what was otherwise an underwhelming effort. The fact that Minnesota easily accounted for Orlando despite Edwards' struggles bodes well for the season ahead. As for Edwards, he will look to get back on track in what promises to be a mouthwatering matchup against the Raptors on Sunday.

Edwards was dominant Wednesday, setting a new franchise Opening Night scoring record to lead the Timberwolves to a victory to begin the 2026-27 campaign. The 2020 No. 1 overall pick averaged a career-best 28.8 points along with 5.0 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.4 steals over 35.0 minutes per contest in 2025-26. However, he appeared in only 61 games, marking the first season of his career with fewer than 72 appearances. Edwards has MVP potential, and while he'll face heavy competition for the award, he could at least be a finalist at the end of the year, assuming he stays healthy.
