Redskins QB Robert Griffin III discusses his knee injury and wearing a brace. (US Presswire) |
Another Wednesday, another round of questions about Robert Griffin III’s sprained right knee. Redskins coach Mike Shanahan said it could take Griffin’s knee time to be good enough for him to return to his days of running the 40-yard dash in 4.3 seconds. But Griffin doesn’t have the luxury of time, not with a playoff game Sunday vs. Seattle.
Here’s what he had to say during his weekly media session:
How does your knee feel?
RG3: “I feel good. I’ve felt better every day, every week. The good thing is there’s been no setbacks in the games, so I get to go out there and see what I can do. Each week I’ve been able to do more. Today I felt a lot better than I did last week. That’s all you can ask for at this point.”
Has your knee injury changed your running style at all?
RG3: “No, I think, if anything, the injury has shown me a lot -- just from a quarterback perspective. This game is not easy, but it [the injury] did show me some things I can do to make the game easier for myself -- easier on my body. Ironically, I’ve done a better job of protecting myself since the injury -- sliding, getting down, getting all the possible yards I can and getting out of bounds. Sometimes, things have to happen like that for you to really, really grasp that. I don’t think I’ve ever rushed for 10 yards a carry in a game, and I did that in this past game. That was kind of funny.”
How much is your running affected by the knee and how much by the brace?
RG3: “It’s getting pretty close to just being mostly the brace. The doctors aren’t going to let me take it off, I don’t believe. [Head Athletic Trainer] Larry [Hess] is not going to let me take it off. I try to do as much as I can without the brace. Then, whenever they find out that I don’t have it on, I have to throw it on.
Will you wear the brace for the rest of the season?
RG3: “I don’t know. My leg -- I can feel it healing. I might not wear the brace this week. I’m sure Larry Hess is shaking his head downstairs right now, but we’ll see what happens. There is no rest of the season right now. We just have to focus on Seattle.”
What do you like about Seattle QB Russell Wilson’s game?
RG3: “Just a determined guy. I know his whole story as far as going to college and leaving N.C. State to go to Wisconsin. I know me and him last year dueled it out for one of the records. I don’t remember which one it was, but we were dueling out for that. It’s just good to see him being so successful. At the same time, I want our defense to go out and shut them down.”
