Former Lions wide receiver Charles Rogers was the second player selected in the 2003 NFL Draft -- ahead of Andre Johnson, Terrell Suggs and Troy Polamalu -- and like another player taken No. 2 overall five years before, quarterback Ryan Leaf, Rogers' career was both disappointing and brief. Also like Leaf, Rogers has had his run-ins with the law and he's currently wanted on two arrest warrants by the Saginaw, Mich., authorities.
According to the the Detroit News, Rogers, 30, is charged with five misdemeanors in two unrelated incidents. In March, he was charged with making malicious phone calls and conspiring to commit a crime, possessing marijuana, having an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle; and in December, he was charged with driving on a suspended license.
The marijuana charge carries a maximum sentence of 12 months, while the phone charge comes with a six-month maximum.
In three seasons, Rogers played in 15 games (nine starts) for the Detroit Lions. Over that span he had 36 receptions for 440 yards and four touchdowns. His career was marred by injuries and unmet expectations, and it served as a microcosm of then-Lions president Matt Millen's tenure. Rogers was the first of four wide receivers Detroit would take in the first round from 2003-2007: Roy Williams ('04), Mike Williams ('05), Calvin Johnson ('07). And by the time Johnson joined the Lions, Rogers had been out of the NFL for two years.
On Friday, Ryan Leaf, the No. 2 pick in the 1998 NFL Draft behind Peyton Manning, was arrested on drug, burglary and theft charges.
