Bears rookie wide receiver Alshon Jeffery has made the same fast start at training camp that he did in rookie camp after the draft.
The challenge now is extending it because Jeffery quickly disappeared in offseason work following his quick start. Hamstring issues limited his effectiveness in minicamp and rendered him an observer during much of OTAs.
However, Jeffery has displayed the same type of hands the teams saw out of him at South Carolina in seven-on-seven passing the first two days of camp and has even impressed wide receivers coach Darryl Drake, who rarely gets excited about what rookies do.
What Drake likes about Jeffery goes beyond his hands. He's doing something most rookie wideouts Jeffery's size (6-3) struggle with in the NFL -- route running.
"He does a great job of getting in and out of his breaks for his size," Drake said.
Jason Campbell in the passing game against the second team defense, a sight likely to be seen during the second and third quarters of upcoming preseason games.
