Most of the Cincinnati Bengals roster has been determined by coaches with only Thursday's game against Indianapolis before the team trims to 53.
Each week during the preseason, RapidReports took a position-by-position look at the players likely to make the final cut. Here is the final projection before the team makes final cuts.
Stock rising: C Trevor Robinson. The undrafted free agent impressed to the point he will start Thursday's game in place of injured starter Kyle Cook. The Bengals like his mental upside, but he needs to beef up physically.
Stock falling: C Reggie Stephens. With every rise there is a fall, and Stephens fell out of favor in his second season. A lack of production means he will play Thursday against Indianapolis then pack his bags.
QB -- In: (2) Andy Dalton, Bruce Gradkowski. Out: Zac Robinson. Analysis: No surprises here. Marvin Lewis rolled with two QBs last season and is a proponent of the philosophy. Robinson could end up on the practice squad, but Cincinnati could also opt for another rookie to be the third QB -- on the practice squad -- if they aren't happy with Robinson's progress.
RB -- In: (5) BenJarvus Green-Ellis, Bernard Scott, Brian Leonard, Cedric Peerman, Chris Pressley (FB). Out: Dan Herron, Jourdan Brooks, James Develin. Analysis: Running back is about the most predictable of the position groups. Green-Ellis and Scott will split the majority of the starting carries with Leonard holding on to his role as third-down back. Peerman is excellent on special teams and Pressley had next to no competition in camp. Herron will be a lock for the practice squad.
WR -- In: (6) A.J. Green, Armon Binns, Brandon Tate, Andrew Hawkins, Mohamed Sanu, Marvin Jones. Out: Vidal Hazelton, Ryan Whalen. Any drama was sapped from the final cut here when the Bengals let Jordan Shipley go early to allow him to catch on with another team. Whalen is a favorite of the coaches, but his health issues keep him on the outside.
TE -- In: (3) Jermaine Gresham, Donald Lee, Orson Charles. Out: Colin Cochart. Analysis: Cochart benefited from a preseason injury to Bo Scaife last year, but didn't show enough to unseat the two veterans and a promising prospect in Charles.
OL -- In: (9) Andrew Whitworth, Clint Boling, Jeff Faine, Kevin Zeitler, Andre Smith, Anthony Collins, Otis Hudson, Dennis Roland, Trevor Robinson . Out: Travelle Wharton (IR), Kyle Cook (IR), Reggie Stephens, Matthew O'Donnell. Analysis: This group will be the most interesting to watch with the recent injury to Kyle Cook clouding the decision. Likely, Cook goes on IR. If the Bengals feel Cook could return, they may use a new rule to place him on IR and later exercise a one-player option to bring him back later in the year.
DL -- In: (8) Carlos Dunlap, Domata Peko, Geno Atkins, Michael Johnson, Robert Geathers, Devon Still, Brandon Thompson, Jamaal Anderson. Out: Pat Sims (PUP), Nick Hayden, Vaughn Meatoga, DeQuin Evans. Analysis: Pat Sims will be placed on PUP as the Bengals wait to see if anyone on the line goes down the first-half of the season to clear a roster spot. Hayden could be the darkhorse to sneak in if the team finds an open spot elsewhere. With Dunlap and Geathers coming off injury, depth would be appreciated.
LB -- In: (7) Manny Lawson, Rey Maualuga, Thomas Howard, Vincent Rey, Dan Skuta, Roddrick Muckelroy, Vontaze Burfict. Out: Dontay Moch (suspension), Micah Johnson, Emmanuel Lamur, Grant Hunter. Analysis: This position became crowded in a hurry. The Bengals could consider keeping a crazy number like eight LBs because Moch or Johnson could double as hybrid rush ends. Moch has to serve a four-game suspension so it will buy him some time should the Bengals consider cutting him.
DB -- In: (10) Leon Hall, Nate Clements, Terence Newman, Jason Allen, Adam Jones, Dre Kirkpatrick, Reggie Nelson, Taylor Mays, Jeromy Miles, George Iloka. Out: Brandon Ghee (IR), Robert Sands (IR), Tony Dye, Taveon Rogers (IR), Chris Lewis-Harris, T.J. Heath, Shaun Prater (IR). Analysis: The decimation of the position leaves these 10 as the survivors. Clements versatility to play safety makes it easy to keep six corners and four safeties. The Bengals kept six safeties last season.
Special teams -- In: (3) Mike Nugent, Kevin Huber, Clark Harris. Out: Nobody. Analysis: All three have been rocks on special teams since last year and only an injury would change these spots.
