The Bills held a spirited practice session in front of a packed house under the lights at St. John Fisher’s Growney Stadium Sunday night.
“It was great,” coach Chan Gailey said. “I know it was good for the fans and it was good for our team. Our guys love coming into a night practice and the atmosphere that’s here.”
Who stood out: Wide receiver Marcus Easley had a nice practice, displaying his speed and physicality in the passing game. Easley is looking to make an impact after missing his first two seasons due to injury. ... Rookie cornerback Stephon Gilmore continues to impress. The first-round pick has been Buffalo’s most consistent cornerback and yields little separation. ... Third-round pick T.J. Graham turned on the burners for a long touchdown down the left-hand side in team work. After struggling throughout the spring, Graham’s shown rapid improvement at the start of camp. ... Vince Young had one of his better practices as a Bill, but still needs to work on his consistency and accuracy.
Position battles: Chris Kelsay worked with the first unit at right defensive end, and rookie Cordy Glenn ran with the starters at left tackle. Kelsay got the upper hand on Glenn throughout the evening and blew past the rookie on two consecutive plays to end team work for the night.
Injury updates: Shawne Merriman (ankle) returned on a limited basis and did not take part in any team drills. Wide receiver David Nelson will miss 4-5 days with a sprained tendon in his right knee. Cornerback Justin Rogers left practice early with a hamstring injury and will miss 4-5 days. In addition to Nelson, safety Josh Nesbitt (undisclosed), defensive tackle Kellen Heard (ankle), right tackle Erik Pears (groin) and tight end Mike Caussin (knee) sat out.
