Bills WR Stevie Johnson is officially listed as questionable for Sunday’s game against the New York Jets, but he’s expected to be ready to play in the season opener.
Johnson’s reps were a bit limited on Friday as he deals with a recurring groin injury but he did all that was asked of him on the practice field. Coach Chan Gailey felt that Johnson’s rest day on Thursday benefited the receiver.
“It helped him a lot by doing that and we think another 48 hours will help a lot,” Gailey said. “I feel good about it, but you don’t know (until gameday).”
The Bills need their top wideout in a pivotal division matchup to start the year. Johnson is one of a few receivers around the league to have any success against star CB Darrelle Revis in his career; Johnson had 11 receptions for 159 yards and a TD against Revis and the Jets last year in two games (14.5 average).
In other injury news, RG Kraig Urbik (low back) and QB/WR Brad Smith (groin) practiced fully on Friday and are listed as probable. Both are expected to play.
The injury-prone Bills actually had their entire roster practicing in some capacity on Friday. Asked if he could remember the last time that occurred, Gailey responded: “No. I can’t. That’s a good point, I can’t remember. ... It’s great to have that. That’s what you want.”
