Tony Carter most likely offended a lot of people with his Colorado theater tweet. (US Presswire)

Broncos cornerback Tony Carter tweeted the following on Monday night (via KDVR-TV):

“At a late night movie in Denver yall pray for me!”

Obviously, Carter was referencing the tragic Aurora, Colo., shooting from July 20 that left 12 moviegoers dead, 58 more injured and sparked national outrage and sadness. Though he followed up his initial tweet with a “No Disrespect!!!” tweet, Carter is now back on Twitter to apologize for what most everybody would consider an inflammatory and highly offensive tweet.

As KDVR writes, “At its absolute best -- and it’s doubtful anyone in the state of Colorado or around the nation will take it that way -- it was a terrible joke. At its worst, it was downright terrible.”

Carter, in his fourth year in the league, has played all five games this season as a backup. He has recorded three tackles with one pass defended.
