The San Diego Chargers' stickum controversy wasn't a sticky subject in the Denver Broncos' locker room Monday -- and one the Broncos would just have soon avoided it when meeting the media after their 85-minute post-bye-weekend practice at team headquarters.

"If they were wearing it, we still beat them, and if they weren't we still beat them, it doesn't matter," said S David Bruton, who didn't notice anything unusual during the game.

"Obviously, you prepare for your opponent but you worry about what we do," added LB Keith Brooking. "So I'm not worried about what the Chargers do, especially this week."

For those Broncos who don't monitor reports, the subject was news when it was broached in the locker room.

"I didn't even hear about it until it was just brought to my attention like five minutes ago," Bruton said Monday.

Fox talks about Hurney: After the Panthers fired general manager Marty Hurney on Monday in the wake of a 1-5 start, coach John Fox talked about reaching the Super Bowl in his second of nine seasons with Carolina.

"It's a tough business. We had some good moments, some very good moments there. We went to a Super Bowl; we were in a couple of (conference) championship games," Fox said. "It's unfortunate. I'm sure he'll do fine moving forward."

Hurney became the Panthers' general manager early in 2002, and one of his first decisions was to help hire Fox, then the defensive coordinator of the New York Giants, as the replacement for George Seifert. Fox and Hurney shared power in football operations for the following nine seasons and had a fairly harmonious relationship until the Panthers did not extend Fox's contract after a 12-4 finish in 2008, which soured the relationship between Fox and the organization.

The ensuing dysfunction sent the Panthers spiraling toward a 2-14 finish in 2010, Fox's last year on the job, in which he was hamstrung by a tight pre-lockout budget and a roster expunged of many veteran leaders and contributors from previous seasons. The Panthers didn't renew Fox's contract, but he was out of work less than a fortnight before the Broncos hired him.

Notes: Everyone practiced Monday, which included CB Tracy Porter, who missed last Monday's game with an illness and was held out of some work Wednesday while he recovered. "I had a good day's practice. It feels good to be back out there after the bye week, after missing last week," Porter said. "I'm ready to go."
