Cardinals Notebook: Kevin Kolb's injury sets back already struggling offense

Even with Kevin Kolb still standing, the Arizona offense ranks near the bottom of the NFL in most categories. With John Skelton back in, and only rookie Ryan Lindley available, the Cardinals might have to look elsewhere.

Here are some news and notes from around the Arizona Cardinals ...

Given the team's precarious protection of Kevin Kolb, something was eventually going to give. The time came Sunday. Kolb suffered a chest injury that will keep him out at least six weeks, Eye on Football Blogger Josh Kalinowksi writes, and that puts the Cardinals in a difficult position. After Kolb was sidelined midway through the fourth quarter of the team's 19-16 overtime loss to Buffalo, John Skelton went just 2 for 10 in his stead, with a game-deciding interception for Bills cornerback Jarius Byrd. But with only rookie Ryan Lindley of San Diego State on the roster aside from Skelton, the Cardinals might have to look elsewhere.
Unit by unit, Arizona seemingly has a bevy of injuries, but none perhaps more than the offensive line and defensive backfield. With the line showing more need of instant repair, though, the Cardinals made a move, releasing DB Crezdon Butler and signing tackle Pat McQuistan, the Associated Press reports.
Even with Kolb in the lineup, the offense has struggled, writes Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic. Somers notes that the Cardinals rank second-to-last in the NFL in total yards and third-to-last in scoring, with dropped passes and a poor lack of execution to blame.
Minnesota is preparing for a pair of reunited receivers on Sunday, as home-grown Larry Fitzgerald and Michael Floyd return to their roots. As Charley Walters of the Twin Cities Pioneer Press writes, both hail from the area.
