The Arizona Cardinals and New York Jets engaged in a game of physical one-downs-man-ship that sent offensive football back to the 1940s as the Jets eked out the 7-6 win. The Arizona offense found a way to actually dig itself deeper, and despite a valiant effort from the Cardinals' defense, they've now lost eight straight after winning four straight to open the season.
Offense: F
Last week, only Beanie Wells' two touchdowns in his return from injury boosted the Cardinals from a straight F. This week? There's nothing that lifts the Arizona offensive grade even a fraction of a hair. The Cardinals were dreadful against the Jets -- 137 total yards, five first downs, 0 for 15 on third down -- and a unit that we thought had already had several nadirs this season finally had its actual low point. Switching things up to Ryan Lindley has been an abject failure, and unless Kevin Kolb returns quickly to get the Cardinals playing with any kind of success on offense, the slide will continue. Previous game's grade: F+
Defense: B
The Cardinals stifled and flustered Mark Sanchez into interception after interception. Only problem? Unlike Arizona, the Jets have a third-stringer who can actually move the offense. While the Cardinals were brilliant for much of the game, forcing four turnovers, Greg McElroy took care of the New York attack late in the game and promptly led the Jets to the game-winning score. Previous game's grade: C
Special teams: B+
Jay Feely was a perfect 2-for-2 on field goals and Dave Zastudil continued his impressive season as punter, but Patrick Peterson was bottled up again in the return game. Not exactly the sophomore season we expected out of the young star. Previous game's grade: B
Coaching: F
Ken Whisenhunt can only be given the benefit of the doubt for so long. Sure, the offensive line has been besieged by injuries. Sure the quarterback situation resembles a clown car. Sure a lack of talent is noticeable across the board. But the Cardinals have changed little up, and whatever they're doing, it's not working. Previous game's grade: D
