The Cowboys were hopeful they could go into Sunday’s game with the Ravens getting to choose between two healthy punters.
By the end of Wednesday’s practice, they weren’t sure even one would be healthy.
Veteran Brian Moorman, who was brought in to relieve an injured Chris Jones, suffered a groin injury in Wednesday’s practice and is unlikely to play this week against the Ravens. As for Jones, who has a sprained knee and missed the last game against the Bears, he is questionable considering the injury is on his kicking leg.
The Cowboys don’t have many options in this situation. They can wait and see on Jones and Moorman, and might let place kicker Dan Bailey punt during practice.
They could sign another punter if they find one available and worthy of the roster spot. That would likely mean cutting Moorman, but that’s probably a last resort if neither of the two punters are available for Sunday.
Bailey has had to punt in games last year when Mat McBriar had a foot injury. Bailey has two punts for a 39.5-yard average.
