The Cowboys are looking for depth at safety and apparently didn’t have to look far to find help.
The club has agreed to sign veteran Charlie Peprah, a six-year veteran who started 25 games the past two years for the Packers. Peprah is from Plano, Texas, and was a free agent.
Knee issues in the offseason kept Peprah from joining a team, although he did have several workouts with clubs, including one two weeks ago with the Cowboys.
The move was not official as of Tuesday afternoon as the Cowboys were still deciding how to fit him on the 53-man roster.
Peprah started 14 games in 2010, and was the starting safety for the Packers in Super Bowl XLV at Cowboys Stadium.
The Cowboys entered the season with Gerald Sensabaugh and Barry Church as the starters, but Church is out for the year with a torn Achilles. Backup Danny McCray has been solid the past few weeks and rookie Matt Johnson was expected to contribute but has had three separate hamstring injuries, including another Friday that prevented his NFL debut.
Joining Peprah in the workout two weeks ago was Eric Frampton, who signed right away and has played for the Cowboys the last two weeks.
