Cowboys: New CB LeQuan Lewis likely won't affect Mike Jenkins

The Cowboys have added a cornerback to the roster in rookie LeQuan Lewis, who was on the Jets practice squad.

But it likely won’t change their approach with Mike Jenkins, who is still expected to make his 2012 debut this Sunday in Seattle.

Jenkins missed the entire offseason with a shoulder injury and hasn’t even practiced until 10 days ago. He was a game-time decision for the opener in New York but was held out.

Cowboys owner/GM Jerry Jones said he likes what he sees so far out of Jenkins in practice and said he believes the team should have no problems getting him enough snaps, along with Brandon Carr, Morris Claiborne and Orlando Scandrick.

"I’d obviously like to see him out there on all of our money packages, nickel, dime, all of that,” Jones said Tuesday. “I hope that we can be as innovative as Rob (Ryan) indicated to me he wanted to be, and Jerome Henderson, our secondary coach. So, hopefully we’ll get to see a lot of Jenkins. He’s looked really good at the practices he’s been out there. He moved around good.”

As for Lewis, who was out of football in 2011 before signing with the Raiders and then the Jets in mid-August, he should be a contributor right away on special teams.

The Cowboys had an open roster spot after cutting tight end Colin Cochart on Tuesday and Lewis should be able to play on all four major special teams units.
