The Cowboys are the second-worst team in the NFL when it comes to turnovers.

Tony Romo is leading the league with 13 interceptions, and with just eight takeaways from the Dallas defense, the Cowboys are losing games this year because of a minus-11 ratio.

Coach Jason Garrett says turnovers were the "biggest single factor" in the team's four losses this year. With that in mind, he's going to focus heavily on improving the Cowboys' turnover ratio.

“Taking care of the football and getting the football away from the other guy is obviously very important,” Garrett said. “It’s the statistic that correlates to winning and losing more than any other. Ultimately, you cannot do what we did early on in the game and again at different times later in the game and expect to win on a consistent basis. We have to continue to put that in front of our players and make sure that message gets in there somehow, some way. And we’ll keep doing that.”

While Romo gets the brunt of the criticism for his interceptions, Garrett said it’s always more than just one player.

“Turnovers are a team thing. Takeaways are a team thing. If you look at each of those plays from (Sunday’s) ballgame where we turned the ball over, a lot of people had a lot to do with each of those,” Garrett said. “I don’t want to go into specifics. But we’ve talked to our players about that. Certainly, the guy with the ball in his hands has the most to do with it. But other people are involved. There were some vivid examples of that yesterday in the game.”

Other than Romo’s picks, Dez Bryant and Felix Jones each lost fumbles. Both plays resulted in field goals, and, remember, the Cowboys lost by five.

Dez off punt returns? Bryant had a key fumble while returning a punt Sunday, that coming just one week after a shaky performance in Carolina. It led to the Cowboys benching him on punt returns in favor of a combination of Dwayne Harris and Cole Beasley. In the final minute of play, Bryant was reinserted with the chance to make a big play, but the punt sailed out of bounds.

“I don’t want to make any definitive statements about how we’re going to use guys,” Garrett said. “Certainly, the play he had (Sunday) in the ballgame was not a good play for our football team. That obviously changed the field position. We’ve got to take care of the football on offense. We’ve got to go get the ball on defense. And we certainly have to do that on special teams as well. That was not a good play for us.”

No results on Connor: Garrett said the Cowboys haven't received definitive word on linebacker Dan Connor’s MRI results on Monday. Connor suffered a shoulder/neck strain on Sunday against the Giants, re-aggravating an injury that was bothersome during the week of practice. Connor started for Sean Lee, who is out for the season with a toe injury, but he had to leave the game in the second quarter. The combination of Orie Lemon and newly signed Ernie Sims filled in at inside backer.
