The key word for the Cowboys this training camp has got to be “hamstrung” as the team is now dealing with another star player with a hamstring injury.
Outside linebacker DeMarcus Ware is the latest, although he called the injury very minor. While he won’t be playing Saturday against the Chargers, Ware said he would’ve been able to play had this been a regular season game.
Ware did very little in the Cowboys’ final walkthrough practice of training camp Friday morning before the team departs via train to San Diego.
The Cowboys will likely be without defensive end Jason Hatcher, wide receiver Miles Austin and outside linebacker Anthony Spencer – all because of hamstring injuries. Rookie tailback Lance Dunbar has also been out for two weeks with a hamstring injury and rookie safety Matt Johnson, a fourth-round pick, has yet to practice with the Cowboys in camp because of a hamstring setback.
Rookie RB Waived: The Cowboys released rookie tailback Ed Wesley on Friday just before the team left Oxnard for San Diego.
Wesley, a rookie from TCU who went undrafted in the NFL Supplemental Draft in July, signed with the Cowboys before the start of camp. Even with injuries to rookie Lance Dunbar (hamstring) and Phillip Tanner (hand), Wesley couldn't take advantage of his additional playing time.
Expect first-year back Javarris Williams to get more carries against the Chargers.
