Cowboys running back DeMarco Murray was on his way to having his best game of the season with 90 rushing yards in the first half Sunday. But a sprained left foot sidelined him for most of the second half and forced him to undergo an MRI Sunday evening.
The Cowboys are still awaiting word on the results as of early Monday morning, but the team isn’t expecting a major injury for Murray, who was walking without a limp to the team bus after the game.
Owner/GM Jerry Jones sounded optimistic, but still concerned about Murray’s status after the game.
“We're going to have to wait and see. … I don't know right now,” Jones said. “I certainly wouldn't rule him out (for next week) but I know it was significant enough for him to not be out there. But it's disappointing for him because of how he started off.”
In fact, Murray sounded disappointed he wasn’t allowed back in the game, even when backup Felix Jones went to the locker room with cramps in the third quarter.
"I was trying to (return), that was their decision,” Murray said. "It's a long season. It's only the fifth game, and I have to do what's best for the team."
After Murray’s 131-yard game against the Giants in Week 1, he had only 108 total yards in the next three games. But early on against Baltimore, it was clear the Cowboys were running the ball better against the Ravens. Murray had 93 on 14 attempts while Jones had 92 yards on 18 carries. Even third and fourth-string backs Phillip Tanner and Lance Dunbar had a combined 42 yards on 10 attempts.
