In Hall's mind, RGIII hasn't done anything yet. (US Presswire) |
Not only does Robert Griffin III not get any respect from his opponents (I meant to write, Bob Griffin, of course), even his teammates are bashing him.
Well, sort of.
“He’s probably right now, the worst quarterback in our division. He hasn’t taken a snap,” cornerback DeAngelo Hall said, via the Washington Post. “He has that title until he takes a snap and goes out and proves he’s something.”
OK, I get what Hall is saying, but here’s the thing … Oh, you weren’t done speaking yet?
“It starts in our division, man,” Hall said. “We ain’t looking at nobody else. Our division is so tough. Great quarterbacks. … We have to prove we can get past our division first. We get past our division and we make the playoffs, and the last couple years, we haven’t been able to do that. That’s why we haven’t been in the playoffs.”
Hall, as you should know, doesn't have a problem speaking his mind on all matters. Of course, Hall did compare Griffin favorably to Michael Vick last month, so perhaps the most recent interview was more for motivation than anything else.
Of course, it’s not like Griffin is playing in the AFC East (Ryan Fitzpatrick, Mark Sanchez/Tim Tebow and David Garrard/Matt Moore) or the NFC West (John Skelton/Kevin Kolb, Alex Smith, Seattle’s boondoggle) where Griffin could show up as the No. 2 draft pick and automatically be the second-best quarterback in the division.
No, the rest of the division includes Eli Manning, Tony Romo and Vick. We know the talents of Vick, the Super Bowl titles of Manning and the (probable) top-10 status of Romo. The Redskins, at this point, DO have the worst quarterback in the division. Just like last year when Rex Grossman and John Beck were floating passes to the other team.
But there’s a slight difference between Grossman and Beck and the new franchise quarterback. Even Hall can see that.
“Just watching him, making throws and things like that, you can tell the kid can make every throw on the field and use his legs to help extend the play,” Hall said. “As a DB, you hate that. You hate to see a quarterback, where you feel like, ‘Oh, man, we got him,’ and then the play’s still going on. He brings that dynamic to the game.”
And maybe, just maybe, RGIII won’t be the worst quarterback in the NFC East for very long.
