Dolphins star edge rusher Cameron Wake exited Thursday night's game against the Patriots with an Achilles injury and won't return.
CBS sideline reporter Tracy Wolfson confirmed the injury during the CBS broadcast.
Wake picked up his NFL-leading seventh sack after dumping Tom Brady in the second quarter. He leads in the NFL in sacks despite not recording one in the Dolphins' first four games.
Wake was hurt while rushing off the left end while trying to get past Patriots tight end Michael Williams. He still tried to get to Brady after injuring the Achilles.
After being helped off the field by the Miami training staff, he was carted into the locker room.
If Wake is lost for the season, that's crushing news for a Dolphins defense that had come to life under interim coach Dan Campbell before getting blitzed by the Patriots, 36-7.
