No assistant coach is a hotter commodity this week than the Broncos offensive coordinator Mike McCoy.
Tuesday night, the Eagles became the fourth team to ask permission to interview him, per multiple reports. The Eagles join the Bills, Cardinals and Bears in reaching out to the Broncos to speak with McCoy.
Every team that interviews McCoy is expected to travel to Denver to interview him during the Broncos' bye weekend. McCoy will be busy the next three days, as the Broncos will practice Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and will hold a team weightlifting session Saturday to keep the players from scattering.
McCoy interviewed twice with the Dolphins last year before they hired Joe Philbin, and declined interview opportunities from the Jaguars and Raiders last January.
Given that he turned down those chances, McCoy will likely be choosy.
"I love my job here. I work for the best organization in the NFL. My wife and I and the kids, we absolutely love Denver," McCoy said in December. "We'll see what happens. If it's meant to be, it's meant to be. If not, hey, we can stay here for a long time."
One Broncos staffer will be staying put: director of player personnel Matt Russell instructed the Broncos to deny all interview requests. The Chargers had hoped to interview him for their general manager vacancy.
In a text message to NFL Network's Albert Breer, Russell wrote, "I stayed because I cheered for the Broncos in college. Fiercely loyal to the state and fan base and have a great staff I work with. And (John) Elway is the best. We have a great thing going and my fam is happy and so to jump at more money and relocate didn't make sense. I'm sure lots of guys in the league will think I'm stupid but it's sort of like (Eric) DeCosta at Baltimore. I'm loyal to this place and I don't wanna leave."
