The Philadelphia Eagles were already going to head into their "Monday Night Football" showdown with the division rival Dallas Cowboys a bit shorthanded. Now, they are even more so.
Left tackle Jordan Mailata suffered a knee injury during Thursday's practice, per the Delaware News Journal, and did not practice Friday or Saturday. In the team's final injury report of the week, Philadelphia officially ruled Mailata out for this Week 3 NFC East battle.
Philly already lost guard Brandon Brooks to a torn pectoral muscle suffered during the team's Week 2 loss to the San Francisco 49ers. Rookie Landon Dickerson replaced Brooks in the lineup at right guard. With Mailata now ruled out, he will presumably be replaced by former first-round pick Andre Dillard, who was usurped in the lineup by Mailata in the first place.
The Cowboys will be without defensive ends Demarcus Lawrence, Dorance Armstrong, and potentially Bradlee Anae on Monday night, while Randy Gregory will be returning to the lineup after testing positive for COVID-19 last week. Rookie linebacker Micah Parsons filled in ably as an edge rusher last week against the Chargers and will presumably do so again with the team shorthanded at the position.
Dillard will be primarily assigned to block Gregory, who rushes off the right side of the Cowboys' line. He picked up 1.5 sacks against Mailata in the teams' Week 16 matchup last season.
