The bye week doesn't usually produce too many interesting stories in the NFL. Most players either spend the week relaxing or they take the Johnny Manziel route and head to their old school to catch a college game.
Eagles long snapper Jon Dorenbos didn't do either of those. Instead, he went to Los Angeles and ended up randomly having dinner with Mel Gibson.
I know what you're thinking, 'How do you randomly have dinner with Mel Gibson?'
Well, first, you have to have friends who know Mel Gibson. Dorenbos was in LA visiting with Steven Chasman, a Hollywood producer who also happens to be an Eagles fan. Dorenbos is a friend of Chasman's and was at the producer's house for dinner one night during the bye week.
The second part of randomly having dinner with Mel Gibson is that Mel Gibson has to randomly show up. Gibson, who lives near Chasman in Malibu, showed up at Chasman's house while Dorenbos was doing dinner there.
The Eagles long snapper didn't just get to eat with Gibson either, they did magic tricks together.
"He was really cool and has this great voice," Dorenbos said of Gibson, via the Philadelphia Inquirer. "I'd describe him as polite and humble. He and I were doing card tricks together for the kids that were there. We had this thing going for about 15 minutes where he would guess the card every time."
Dorenbos also added, "Yeah, he's a really good-looking guy in person."
If Dorenbos is smart, he spent the dinner pitching a remake of the Tony Danza classic, "The Garbage Picking, Field Goal Kicking, Philadelphia Phenomenon."
