The first depth chart shakeup of training camp happened on Saturday morning when the Eagles’ first team lined up and King Dunlap was at left tackle.
Dunlap replaces Demetress Bell, who was signed in the offseason to replace injured All-Pro Jason Peters and had practiced with the first team ever since the first minicamp practice in May.
But Bell has struggled some learning the Eagles’ offense and coach Andy Reid said he promised Dunlap a chance to win a starting job when Dunlap re-signed with the team in the offseason.
“There’s not a lot of separation between them and King deserves an opportunity,’’ Reid said. “I just want to make sure everybody has his shot.’’
Bell said he’s disappointed at his demotion, but not angry, and he said he plans on winning his No. 1 job back.
“It’s a new system and I just have to get it down pat and learn it,’’ Bell said. “That’s it –- it’s all about practice.”
Dunlap said he hasn’t been focused on depth chart as much as improving his game, but he is happy for a chance to run with the ones.
“I guess they’re trying to get a feel for who’s going to be the best fit for the offensive line,’’ he said.
