- Has David Garrard taken the lead over Matt Moore in the race to be the starting quarterback? Garrard was sharper in the West Coast offense than Moore during Saturday’s practice, according to ESPN.com’s James Walker.
- The Dolphins rarely used the no-huddle last year, but that could change under coach Joe Philbin, who went to it regularly when he was the offensive coordinator in Green Bay, where he had the luxury of Aaron Rodgers. "We want to be an up-tempo offense and we do want to run a lot of plays at the opposition," Philbin told Walker after the team worked on it during Saturday’s practice.
- Where is first-round pick Ryan Tannehill? The quarterback wasn’t at training camp on Saturday, according to The Palm Beach Post’s Ben Volin. Tannehill, a former Texas A&M standout who is debating with the team over the language of his contract, is at the IMG’s Madden Football Academy in Bradenton, Fla., according to ESPN. Tannehill is working with Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Chris Weinke, the academy’s director. Cam Newton and Christian Ponder trained at the academy during last year’s work stoppage.
- Dolphins owner Stephen Ross had a clear message for his team as he watched practice on Friday, wrote The Miami Herald’s Barry Jackson. Optimism is high for the Dolphins, who won six of their last nine games opening 0-7 last year.
- RB Reggie Bush, who rushed for 1,000 yards for the first time in his NFL career last year, has a loftier goal this season: lead the league in rushing. “I think it’s very possible,” Bush told the Sun Sentinel’s Mike Berardino. “We’ll see when this train begins, but I think it’s possible, yes.” Bush is part of a running back group that includes second-year player Daniel Thomas and rookie Lamar Miller out of the University of Miami.
