Here are some news and notes from Dolphins training camp:
- Linebacker Karlos Dansby and defensive end Cameron Wake are making smooth transitions to the team’s 4-3 scheme after playing in a 3-4 last year, according to The Miami Herald’s Barry Jackson. Dansby has never played middle linebacker in the 4-3 scheme, but Wake played as a defensive end in the 4-3 during his time in the Canadian Football League, where his 23-sack season with the British Columbia Lions in 2008 led to him landing with the Dolphins. Wake has 22.5 sacks the past two seasons, with Dansby making 198 tackles, five sacks and three forced fumbles during that span.
- Rookie quarterback Ryan Tannehill, who was drafted eighth overall, agreed to terms and practiced Sunday after missing the first two days of sessions, according to the Associated Press. Tannehill, who is the first quarterback taken in the first round by the Dolphins since Dan Marino in 1983, completed passes to Chad Johnson and Roberto Wallaceduring his limited reps, according to The Palm Beach Post. Tannehill is expected to compete against David Garrard and Matt Moore for the starting job. Tannehill is comfortable with offensive coordinator Mike Sherman, who coached him at Texas A&M, where he started 19 games after beginning his career in College Station as a receiver.
- Free agent receiver Braylon Edwards worked out for the team earlier this week, coach Joe Philbin confirmed Sunday, according to NFL.com. Edwards, who was released by San Francisco after playing just nine games last year, could be signed to bolster a group of receivers that includes Chad Johnson, Brian Hartline, Legedu Naanee and Davone Bess, tweeted The Miami Herald’s Armando Salguero. Edwards, 29, has 341 receptions for 5,323 yards and 39 scores during his 99-game career with the Browns, Jets and 49ers. Edwards also has worked out for the Seahawks.
- Receiver Brian Hartline (recovering from appendectomy) and strong safety Chris Clemons (lower leg) missed practice Sunday, according to The Palm Beach Post’s Brian Biggane, who added quarterback Matt Moore threw the ball much better Sunday than he did Saturday.
