The Seahawks have a scheduled off day Monday, but they're still managing to make news. The team is bringing in former 49er, Eagle, Cowboy, Bill and Bengals wide receiver Terrell Owens for a workout. Here's more on the Owens situation along with other Seahawks links to help you get through your Monday.
T.O. is in town
The reason T.O. has been invited to Seattle, according to Sports Illustrated's Peter King, is because the team has heard that Owens "has been humbled and is in great shape." Owens will workout for the Seahawks Monday.
Former Pro Bowl cornerback Eric Davis said T.O in Seattle is a bad idea. "[Coach] Pete Carroll works better with young players,” Davis said. “He works better in a teaching mode, he works better bringing the guys up the chain. I don’t think T.O. is going to listen to a lot of what he says. I don’t think Pete’s method is going to work with him.”
By the way, if you're wondering how T.O.'s workout went, here's an early Twitter review from Seahawks rookie wide receiver Lavasier Tuinei, "Just saw T.O. Workout for Seahawks the man still has it..hope he comes to camp because I can learn a lot from him! #GoHawks"
Mark your calendar for Aug. 21
So when will Pete Carroll finally name a starting quarterback? Circle Aug. 21 on your calendar according to Jerry Brewer of the Seattle Times. Brewer said Matt Flynn has the edge over rookie Russell Wilson and 2011 starter Tarvaris Jackson. "Based on what I've seen and heard at training camp so far, Flynn will be the guy unless he regresses in practice or performs terribly in the first two preseason games."
Lynch runs wild
Running back Marshawn Lynch isn't letting his recent DUI charge affect his play. In Sunday's mock scrimmage, Lynch was in "midseason form" according to the Seattle PI. Lynch's spectacular day included a 70-yard scoring run. "Marshawn ran really well. This was a big day for him to get some good running in," coach Pete Carroll said.
Marion Barber clone
Seahawks backup running back Robert Turbin reminds NFL Network analyst Daniel Jeremiah of former Dallas Cowboys running back Marion Barber. "I just thought he was a faster version of Barber, was just gonna run hard, catch the ball a little bit, had good vision, balance - I just really liked him," Jeremiah told SB Nation blog Fieldgulls.
Can the Seahawks make the playoffs?
Of all the teams with a legitimate quarterback battle in training camp, NFL.com's Gregg Rosenthal reported the Seahawks are the most likely to make the playoffs. Out of Tennessee, Arizona, Miami and Seattle, Rosenthal says, " The Seattle Seahawks are my choice because they have a more improved, more talented young defense. Pete Carroll's team, like division foe San Francisco, was greater than the sum of its parts by the end of last year. With a little help from Matt Flynn, the Seahawks can win the NFC West.
